In going on a two week cruise next month, which is far too long to be away from an ukulele. So, I decided I'd be taking one with me which produced the challenge of its safe and convenient carrying. There is nothing I hate more than juggling too many bags in the airport so with some quick thinking and a little crude sewing a solution was found.

What you need:

Skater's pack
Nylon gig bag
Nylon strap, scrap cloth, etc.
Dental floss
Needle
Scissors
Ball point pen

I went out and bought a new backpack cause I needed one, it also happens to look very cool, I'm a skateboarder as well so It may get use carrying those in the future but I doubt it. Other backpacks work as well, especially hiking packs. It's all about picking a bag with strap points for uke attachment.

After I had the pack I took my gig bag and I cut two pieces of goalie mask elastic harness for my uke bag straps. I didn'teasure anything here. I approxated the length and then mocked up and marked the position with a pen.

Now all that's left is to sew them down. I used dental floss because of its high tensile strength. It took me a long time to sew because I didn't have a large enough diameter needle and my gig bag only opened at the bottom making access to the inside a little rough.

Anyway with both pieces sewn on the top strap goes through our top strap and the gig bag handle. The bottom strap goes through the bottom strap. Now your uke is safely carried on your pack and your luggage is streamlined.

Pretty cool - you know what they say, "mothers were an invention of necessity" (or something like that)...
