Thanks Bo, you have at least given me a a rough idea of how old it may be.
Just got it in. It has a few issues but once I got it in tune the sound isn't bad even with the yellowed, dead strings. Top is definitely solid, pretty sure it's spruce. I'm fairly certain the backs and sides are solid rosewood. The canvas bag that came with it is in almost perfect shape.
Here are the issues:
1. I had to tighten the heck out of the A tuner so it wouldn't slip. I actually heard it creaking while the string was going slack. Anyway to fix this or should I just get some Grovers? I hope I don't have to replace the tuner because they look like the old Keystone tuners that Gibson used to use except they're solid plastic and white.
2. It smells...well, I guess like mildew is the only way I can think to describe it. Pretty sure before I adopted her she was stored in a basement or shed. How can I get rid of the odor?
3. Speaking of stinky, the inside of the canvas bag also stinks like mildew. I sprayed some Lysol inside of it and that seems to have helped. Would it be a bad idea the throw it in the washing machine then air dry it? Get it dry cleaned?
4. Tonight before I go to bed I'm going to glue a crack on the top. Tomorrow I'll clean her up and restring her (unless I end up having to order new tuners). I have a set of Worth Browns and a set of Martin M600's; what set would sound best?
If anyone has even a remote idea of what it is please let me know or if you know of someone who might be able to identify it.
