For about the last six years, there has been an annual gathering of uke enthusiasts to mark the arrival of the SS Ravenscrag in Hawaii on 23rd August 1879. We get together on the nearest Thursday afternoon to celebrate the origins of our favourite instrument.

The venue is The Bay Horse Inn, Stourport-on-Severn, DY13 9JA, (in the beer garden) from about 12.30pm to whenever, but we usually break up about 4.30pm.

It is an informal event, simply to meet up with friends old and new, to chat, strum, sing, and generally do what ukers do.

There is no progam, as such, but Richard Bending and the crew from Ukebox Jury of Swindon will be there, and members from at least two local uke clubs will be present. Good food and drink will be available at the bar, of course, and weather permitting, we'll be outdoors at the usual picnic tables with umbrellas.

So, anyone who can make it will be most welcome to join in the fun. Just turn up, or if you want to ask a question, send me a pm.

If anyone comes from overseas, I'll personally buy them a pint!

Just a nudge to remind folks that the Ukulele Birthday Celebration is on Thursday next, 22nd August.

Looking forward to meeting old friends, and making new ones.

Ukulele Birthday

The afternoon meet at The Bay Horse Inn was a delight. The number of players was a bit down on what might have been, because the local (Kidderminster) uke club had a gig that same afternoon. Nevertheless, we were twenty-four happy souls, nattering and strumming, eating and drinking - in lovely sunny weather.

The new landlord of the inn was very pleased with the extra business and free entertainment for his regular customers.

Here's a photo of one of the impromptu sing-alongs:-
