Is there a board on Ukulele Clubs/Societies? Lots of folks come here looking for aclub to join....

Have you tried meetup.com? I found several uke groups near me and have been to three meetups so far.

If there aren't any, maybe you could consider starting one.

If there are but they don't have anything upcoming, you could always offer to host and suggest a meetup if you have the space.

If the weather's nice, a backyard jam with some shade can be a lot of fun. Living rooms tend to get crowded if you have more than a few people, at least in the average sized house. :)

I'm already a member of the Tampa Bay Ukulele Society, the third largest club in America. But I was thinking of making it easier for users of UU who can't find a club....see how many people are looking????

The closest thing to me is the one in Atlanta, and that is not a drive there and back in one day kind of trip. I am going to try to get some friends together and do some playing and maybe grow it into a little local thing. I am not sure where to start, except to invite some folks over and start playing and singing.

you have got a good point here Nickie, there should be an up to date sticky on UU with clubs worldwide

I think that's the best way to start....we have a Meetup.com site....makes us real accesable....donations pay for it....they thought we might get 20 or so people, now almost 600!!!
There are at least 60 at each jam session, we keep outgrowing our venues!

There are a number of small ukulele clubs in the Tampa Bay area in addition to the very large Tampa Bay Ukuleles. I belong to the "Love Ukuleles Club" which meets every third Wednesday in Tarpon Springs FL. We have 20 members and mostly jam at our meetings.

cool....I used to go to that when it was on Saturdays....fun little group, I believe a splinter off TBUS...

I'm with you Nickie. I do think it would be the perfect place for folks to find local clubs. I belong to TBUS and Sarasota Sandfleas but they are a haul from my place in Punta Gorda (I still go, 'cuz I'm ukecrazy). But I needed more group ukeing so just started a local club here in P.G. Since I'm new to the area, I couldn't just invite friends over and don't know any other uke players in my area, so I used meetup. I think though, that's there's a large percentage of people who don't think to use meetup, so it would be great if there was a spot on the forum for finding local clubs.

I would appreciate that, personally. There are no uke groups near me but I visited the one in Cheltenham last year.
I always make a mental note of UU members who live near places I am likely to visit, since I travel quite a bit, but groups can be harder to keep track of. It would be nice to have a resource we could consult when we travel.

My husband, myself, and a friend have ukes so far, so we will start small. I have a friend who might join if I can get him to buy a uke. Decent ones are so easy on the wallet, I don't understand why everyone doesn't buy one...or five... I also played at our last Boy Scout meeting and will be working with the boys on their music badge, so I hope to find some willing souls through that. I've already found one, but he no longer has a uke. Baby steps...

Oh, and I would use and enjoy having a forum for uke clubs, even if it is just a listing of active clubs/when they meet/websites.
