Thre Mya-Moe lap steels are resonators. What makes them great is steel strings. The regular resos use nylon, mylar, cat gut or other non-steel materials. When it comes to sliding on a resonator "Steel is Real"

Thanks John... ok i understand.. if i put metal strings in a normal resonator i can play as a lap steel.. but if i put nylon strings in a lap steel i can't play as a normal uke because the square neck.... this is correct?

The thing that makes a lap steel instrument a lap steel instrument is a very high action. Far too high for fretting but high enough to do some fancy work with the slide without it bottoming out. I have a regular baritone ukulele setup for lap slide at the moment with a high action. It sounded OK with nylgut strings. A bit mellow but very bluesy. I have steel strings on it at the moment. Brighter but still a great blues sound.

Have you considered buying a cheap lap steel guitar?? I know this is a uke forum so it might seem like a sacrilegious suggestion.
After I bought a solid body U-Bass I realized I could have bought a better real bass guitar for less.

Uke tuning is a bit high for lap steel... to increase the harmonic range and get good tones for melody, baritone scale and tuning would be great...
