Speed Week at Bonneville

August 10 - 16 is the week for Southern California Timing Association's annual Speed Week meet. It's been held at the Bonneville Salt Flats in NW Utah since 1949.

I am the announcer. AutoWeek magazine has an article about our live audio streaming efforts. We had a heck of a time getting the proper equipment to even get our signal off the salt. The flats themselves are way out there. Our broadcast booth is several miles past that!

The event went as planned and I am dragging after a full week of 12-hour days. But the Great Spirit was with me, and I survived. Also scored this '70s vintage course marker. They position one on either side of the course at whatever measured mile. This is a mile one marker (duh) with a dash to show which way to turn out from the course.

Hey , that course marker is cool . A friend of mine went a couple years ago and I had him bring me back a bag of salt. I have it in a jar on my desk. Someday I'll get there.
