Hiya good folks of UU!

Just a little post to share the good uke week I've been having.

GUW item #1: Got my copy of the book "The Martin Ukulele: The Little Instrument That Helped Create a Guitar Giant" in the mail the other day. What a fantastic book, highly recommended!

GUW item #2: Another goodie I got in the mail: my spanking new Mainland Red Cedar Tenor ukulele I had ordered from the excellent Uke Republic months ago finally arrived! It seems that it's a very popular model because it was out of stock with a long waiting list for a long time. And when you open the box, you immediately know why: this uke is a thing of beauty. I think it's made by faeries. And it sounds really really really good! Too bad I can't play it properly at the moment because of my injured wrist but still a pleasure to hold in my hands and strum away a little. Which brings us to...

...GUW item #3: My wrist is making progress! HURRAY!!!! I went for a check-up at my new physio this week (this one is actually specialised in wrist injuries - THANK GOODNESS). We're doing a treatment during the summer to see if the problems I have are due to the bones or the scar tissues: if the exercises I'm doing are improving my range of movements then it's the scar tissues, if they don't then it's the bones. And on Wednesday, it turns out my range of movements is improving! YAY! Still doesn't rule out bone problems and the need for surgery but at least it's going in the right direction. So now I'm hopeful I might regain full movement in my left hand and be able to fret properly again. Best thing is: playing the uke has been added to my list of daily physio exercises. Oh. The. Horror. I hate doing that exercise for sure, hehe ;)

That's it. Just wanted to share :) Hope you've all been having a good uke week as well! Me I feel like this song:

(PS: Mainland uke pictures coming soon! It now has Southcoast cuatro strings on, and is tuned in D with low 1st and 4th strings - lovely sound and tuning!)

Glad to hear about your GUW! Sorry to hear about your injured wrist...

A Mainland red cedar tenor is an excellent choice, and a great playing uke. I know this because I played one at the Mainland Ukulele Shop in Nashville, Indiana while I was attending UWC. If I had had the extra money at the time, that baby would've come home with me.

Maybe someday. ::Sigh::

Indeed, it was definitely worth the wait! Also, I find that these ukes look so much better in the flesh than they do on pictures. The red cedar top changes colour depending on how the light hits it, from dark red to warm orange. Really beautiful. And the colours and patterns of the different woods and of the rope binding work really well together. I ordered it with golden friction tuners and amber buttons and I'm happy I did (gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous). I was a bit worried the friction tuners wouldn't hold the tuning as you rarely see tenors with friction tuners on these days and you start to think it won't work because of the size of the uke and string tension, but it does. Gives the uke a classier profile IMO. I'm in luuv.

To quote a good friend of mine, "Happy strummings!"

I'm so glad that you can play your uke! Even if it is for physiotherapy! :music: More importantly, it sounds like you have someone actively working on figuring out what is wrong with your wrist, so maybe you will get some answers. Tell your physiotherapist that Ukulele Underground says mahalo! It's just great that you are making some progress.

Congratulations on your new Mainland! Looking forward to the new pictures. Thanks for keeping us posted!
