The problem is that the threaded spindle is way undersize...and a 9/16" 18 tpi tap will allow the machine to run ok for a while...but the female threads will eventualy strip again and again
...I cured the problem by splitting the bush and clamping it tight on the threads....on the last one I repaired I machined the threads in the lathe to fit the spindle...I'm not a member of that forum so I can't chip in and let him know...but all the info is on my UU thread.
