If I'm off, that is. And I hope to bring a few friends from the block. As the date gets closer, lets make arrangments to meet up atleast once, say at one of the open mikes!!

That wouldve been my first ukefest :/

(not that I would have gone up and played)

The venue- The zipper Factory just closed up shop in the middle of the night. Probably what killed it.

I went to Ukefest just after I got my uke and now was looking forward to attending now that I know just enough to be dangerous. Too bad.

Just throwing this out there- I have a film/tv edit facility in a loft here in NYC. If anyone wanted to do some work putting together some kind of event, I could make the space avail. There are several smaller rooms and a big open lounge that could probably get reworked to a jam/performance/open mic kind of thing.

Any ideas?

It is my understanding that the NY Ukefest that was canceled is back on for weekend of May 29-31 at Baruch College and The Gershwin Hotel. Looks like there are going to be a lot of performers and workshops.

Check out:http://nyukefest.com

Are you going? Would love to travel up from Richmond and join this ukefest!

The cost of getting in is going to prevent me from buying another uke for a pretty long time. :( But I hear MGM will have a table set up, and lots of wonderful things for sale.

Besides, uke players as a whole aren't a judgmental bunch, and if you bring a cheap uke nobody will give you a hard time about it. :D

maybe we should start a roll call to see whos going, and maybe organize a meetup beforehand?

ill volunteer to start the roll call, I suck at organizing things though, so someone else can handle that if they want.

Roll Call:
1. Steve(maybe)

edit: wow that is expensive, im now officially a maybe, anyone know if you can buy the full fest tixx at the door?

The New York Ukulele Festival is happening two weeks from now (May 29, 30 & 31) at Baruch College and the Gershwin Hotel! Many workshops, great vendors, fabulous performances at exciting venues. The website nyukefest.com has more details. A sponsor has come forward with enough support to allow us to offer a huge discount to the Ukulele Underground community. This is the only place to get this discount. If you want to attend the full festival, you can now get three-day pass for the price of a one-day pass. Here’s how. Go to Paypal and purchase a $60 one-day pass. When you write your name, put “UU” after it and we will give you a full three-day pass (usually $99), for the price of that one-day pass! Anyone with “UU” after his or her name can take advantage of this offer. I hope to see many of you at the Fest.:shaka:

can anyone verify this?

Well I tried it but it's unknown whether it worked or not. I bought a ticket for Friday(it was $65, not $60). I did what the message said, putting UU after my name in the Paypal shipping address. I also added a note mentioning Ukulele Underground. So far all I have is a confirmation from Paypal that the payment went through. There doesn't seem to be any mention of mailing physical tickets, so I guess I'll find out come the 29th.

I was thinking in the worst case I could just pay the remaining $24 at the festival for the full weekend. Do you think they would disallow that? It all seems pretty loosely organized and surely there will be people buying admission when they arrive, no?

Hi UUers,

I am surprised more of you didn't take advantage of the only discounted ticket to the NY Uke Fest. Only one person, initials-DC, has taken advantage so far. He has received a Full Festival Pass for $65, instead of $99, by putting "UU" after his name on the Paypal payment. Three days of music, a feast at the luau, lots of hula, at least 4 workshops, great vendors....for $65.
...still time.

Here's what it says under "latest news" on the website:

All tickets purchased on Paypal can be picked up at the box office of Baruch College with a Paypal receipt or ID. Tickets purchased online anytime this week can also be picked up at the box office on the day of the Festival.

They also said on the website that online prices will be honored at the door to encourage a bigger turnout. MY paypal account wasn't working, so that is my only option. I can't do the whole 3 day experience, just Saturday afternoon/evening. :nana:

Well I made it folks to the latter half of the NYC Uke Fest and it rocked. Sat in on a fun workshop led by Victoria Vox, got to hang out with Jumpin Jim Beloff, rubbed shoulder with Bill Tapia. The concert was amazing, all the groups were spectacular, downright spiritual at times. I wish I had my video camera to catch it. I was so sorry to leave Bill Tapia's performance early, but I had to get home to the kids (anybody sympathize?).

Saw Haole there we jammed a bit in between (man that guy has some licks!!), and Hobgoblin Steve (we both sat in the Vox workshop). Deach didn't show up tonight, oh well his loss . Next year you all should come, especially if they line up a bunch of excellent groups like this year.

It sounds like there's a few UU peeps there. I'm not sure who exactly is at the fest. but I'd love to hook up if at all possible. If anyone is hanging around NY past Sunday send me a pm. The weather will be nice here this week...perfect for a jam in Central Park. :shaka:

Give a shout if interested.

that was the video guy for the show, im guessing that this is a trailer for the video that will be available for purchase.

Ill be uploading everything that I have between tonight and tomorrow.

in the meantime, I wanted everybody to know that I was spreading the word about UU and quite a few people said they would be joining our little community, including the violinist (Deni Bonet - http://www.denibonet.com/) who also plays the Uke. I have to say, she was very very good with her violin.

Great job steve with all of those vids!! It was a fantastic festival, I think next year they will need a bigger space, more advertising is needed to let all the uke players in NYC know about it, there are alot more of us than who showed up.
