I don't need a new saddle. I'm just getting ready to sand a saddle, and I wanted the shims if I went too far.

Get a roll of camera film. Pretty cheap in these days of digital cameras. Cut your shims from the film. Very sturdy, durable stuff. Ric

A friend of mine had to shim a bridge once,as a temporary measure until
he got a new one.He cut up a soft drink can! It was easy to cut with normal
scissors, but the edges were lethally sharp! So beware 'paper cuts' if you try
it.It does work though!

Thanks, everyone.

Another good idea I caught from Google searching is: trimmed wooden coffee stirrers.

How far out is it? You might try heavy duty aluminum ... from a cake or pie (be sure to clean them well ;-) )
Or go to a hobby store ... they have thin strips of aluminum or brass.
