Hey folks
I've put the word out in my community that I am willing to teach free ukulele lessons to children in the area. I've been teaching my own nine year old and figured she'd like to have a 'class' to join her on the weekend.
I've found someone who is interested- and her dad wants lessons, too, so that they can play and learn together.
Now, I'm thinking about how to bridge teaching basic music concepts to children and keeping the content interesting enough for a grown up who already knows a bit about music.
I figure I'll start with tuning- doesn't everything start there?- and then move into learning chords for the songs they would like to learn. The little girl is a huge Beatles fan, so that should be easy enough. I figure we learn the chords we need, learn to change, work on rhythm and strumming and go forward from there.
I've been teaching my little one scales and chord theory, but I don't know if that would fit cohesively into a half an hour or hour long lesson.
I'd love any little bit of feedback. Those of you who have taken in person lessons- where did you start and what was covered? Is there a basic building blocks approach to doing this? I'm all about incremental learning.
I'm so excited about the opportunity to help spread the joy of ukulele, both to children and to adults! I hope to find more students soon
