Putting a finish on the fretboard

A couple of times in the past, I have taken a low end instrument with a crappy rosewood fretboard and applied a light finish. It filled in the gaps in the pores, and it gave the fretboard a great feel. This worked particularly well with a very low end bass.

I simply wiped on some Minwax and that was that.

I'm getting the urge to do this to my Epi Les Paul uke.
Any reason why this would be a particularly bad idea? :D
 
Try it and see. You can always scrub it off the minwax with fine steel wool. Rickenbacker has "varnished" their rosewood 'boards for decades. Its just a matter of taste and feel.
