Does anyone here plays CGDA-tuned tenor guitar/banjo? I purchased a tenor guitar thinking of tuning it DGBE and playing it like a uke, but I decided to try CGDA. I have some questions:

How can I get started on it? Do I try to learn chords or soloing?

Will I be able to play mandolin once I get the hang of it?

You'll certainly be able to apply the same chords to a Mandola once you learn that tuning, since Mandolas are usually tuned that way. And if you are quick at transposing in your head then you'll be able to apply all the chord shapes you learn to the Mandolin, but will have to do some quick transposing as the instruments are tuned five semitones apart. So the D shape on the Mandola plays a G on the Mandolin (Re to Sol if you are that way inclined ;) )

As to whether to learn chords or melodies, that depends on what you play most yourself and whether you do much accompaniment, etc.

Whatever you do, have fun with your new "baby" - Bye from Catalunya
