New Bridge

Hulloo..

Weeell, since I got my nice new uke, I'm trying a little project and I'm going to try and make my cheap old Mahalo a bit better. Even if I can't make it sound better I could make it look nice and hang it on my wall.
Sooo, I have bought a new bridge on ebay but I don't know much about bridges it appears, the bit where you attach the strings is different to my others and I cant figure out how to do it..

It just has slits, rather than drilled holes to poke the strings through and tie them up, its just like:

How do you do it?

You just tie a knot big enough to keep it in the slot.

That's a lot simpler than I assumed it would be, lol.

Shall I just paint over what's already there? or try and strip/sand the paint off somehow?
