String theory

It is all physics. My knowledge has been a bit rusty and thanks a lot for the reminders. I'll share this with my club members who are more technically inclined. ;)
 
Good stuff. I will direct people to this thread when they ask where the "correct" place to strum/pluck the strings is. Also like the fact that you go into detail regarding intonation. Everyone seems to focus on intonation at the 12th fret... then not realize that they have messed up the intonation closer to the nut (where they play the majority of the time).

I just don't quite understand the principle of intonation...
Since all strings are different and not custom made for your ukulele, it is then normal to have it play (5 to 6 cents) sharp? Is that correct?

And what I can make out of Wicked's post, is that even if at the 12th fret the ukulele is sharp, it's not that big of a deal because it is corrected closer to the nut?

Am I getting this right, or am I a total blondie here? :confused:
