Now I know our favorite little instrument has truly "arrived" as a pop culture icon. When our son and his wife had some "romantic" photo portraits made, he asked if he could take along his 1940s Martin tenor and incorporate that in the portrait.

Here's the result: http://ukuleletonya.com/blog/

What's next? Ukuleles in wedding albums? Ukuleles in family reunion portraits? Ukuleles in "new baby" photos? The possibilities are endless (and so delightful!).

Beautiful picture and the Martin really added more beauty to it Tonya. Very nice!!!

Very nice idea!

Aloha Tonya...
the flower is on the wrong ear....hee hee :)

Lovely picture!

I hate to say it but if I were the guy in that photo, I would be looking down at that vintage Martin tenor smiling.....

Which roughly translates "S&M-iling" to the Hard Noe.

Is that a tenor or concert? Looks tiny.

Yep, that Martin tenor is definitely taken--and Matt's always been taken with *it.* It came to Matthew about almost 10 years ago via a "grandma" his grandpa had married later in life. It had been her sister's ukulele and she thought Matt would enjoy and appreciate it. He has!

I believe my work here is done.

This isn't really new. I know from the lovely "The Ukulele: A History by Jim Tranquada and John King" that the ukulele ousted the banjo on the mainland as the stereotypical "college guy instrument to woo ladies".

Also, these lovely vintage photos (some slightly not safe for work):

That the banjo was EVER the "college guy instrument to woo ladies" entertains me greatly :D

I've been seeing them in print ads and also hearing them in soundtracks to commercials.
