Another sign of the ukulele's popularity: It's now a photo prop

Now I know our favorite little instrument has truly "arrived" as a pop culture icon. When our son and his wife had some "romantic" photo portraits made, he asked if he could take along his 1940s Martin tenor and incorporate that in the portrait.

Yep, that Martin tenor is definitely taken--and Matt's always been taken with *it.* It came to Matthew about almost 10 years ago via a "grandma" his grandpa had married later in life. It had been her sister's ukulele and she thought Matt would enjoy and appreciate it. He has!

Wow, Austin, ukuleles in all kinds of photo albums--and they are *all* delightful (but that newborn makes that ukulele look *so* big--maybe it's a baritone? Or a very tiny baby).

This isn't really new. I know from the lovely "The Ukulele: A History by Jim Tranquada and John King" that the ukulele ousted the banjo on the mainland as the stereotypical "college guy instrument to woo ladies".
