Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington's long time collaborator, wrote most of this song before he was 20. Jazz musician and author Ted Gioia, in his 2012 best seller "The Jazz Standards", wrote, "If I were allowed to steal a single song from the twentieth century and make it my own, without question it would be 'Lush Life'". I'd like to make it my own, too.
