Elizabeth Borden took an ax
and gave her mother 40 whacks.
When the job was nicely done
she gave her father 41!

I can't see your video because of the computer I'm on, but.....

I just wanted to stop in and say that your handle is about the best I've seen in the entire history of UU!

Nice job, Phluffy!

The title of the song is "Fall River Hoedown", subtitled "The Ballad of Elizabeth Borden".

I did this one two years ago for contest Mim had ("Give 'em the Old Razzle Dazzle"), and it was a new one for most folks here.

The songs was originally in the Broadway Show "New Faces of 1952", starring Ertha Kitt, Alice Ghostly, and Paul Lynde - but I learned it from the 1958 Chad Mitchell Trio album, "Mighty Day On Campus", when I was just a wee lad (something like 5 or 6 years old...)

Here's a link to my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=L66UW-UYmbs

One of the thing I love about UU is that we can take the same song, do it differently, and both will still stand on their own.

Yours was terrific.

Here in Massachusetts, the Borden murders are still very much a part of local folklore (even after 121 years). Growing up, the rhyme was always:

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one.

Contrary to the poem, the wife was actually the recipient of several more "whacks" than the husband.

The site of the murders is now a macabre bed& breakfast: http://lizzie-borden.com/
