OK..

I have been 'given permission' to upgrade my ukulele!

having bought and tried different sized uke's I am ready to sell some to buy 'the one'

I have decided that the Concert is the size of choice, tenors and sopranos will be sold as I just don't get on with them. (see sig)

So, where to go? budget of about £300 (ish!)

looking at Mainland but could be persuaded. Any recommendations please?

I suggest a David Gill, right in your ballpark and he'll make it for you as you like it.

:agree: Great choice if you can manage it.

Pono from HMS.
It's my go to uke.

You can't go wrong with a Mainland or a Pono. I have both (tenors) and would recommend both as great "bang for the buck" ukes in their price range. :)

If you've only had laminates, the step up to a solid top is going to make an appreciable difference in tone.

Very important, I think, is your choice of woods. Cedar is generally loud and warm, mahogany is generally more sweet and mellow. Depends on what you want.

Good luck and let us know what you get.

Why not check out Pete Howlett who is a couple of hundred miles
north of you there,or Rob Collins (tinguitar) who is over in Hebden
Bridge? A hand made for the price is a good deal that you would
probably like?

Factory second from KoAloha. I've got a few and there is nothing factory second about them, except the price.

Bruko Custom.

I downloaded their custom sheet off their website. I didn't use it, though as they had a lovely rosewood concert in their online shop which I got instead.

I have since got a Bruko tenor (tuned Bb). Love them both.
