Sam Chang Soprano Koa ukulele

I am selling this beautiful instrument (and a Gibson UB1)to offset the purchase of another vintage uke.

I believe this ukulele was made by Sam Chang for the Summers Brothers in Hawaii before 1925. It has a Paul F. Summers paper label inside the sound hole which looks like new! It has the “Tabu” stamp which dates it, I believe, between 1917 and 1925. The instrument, including the fret board, is all beautiful honey colored koa wood. The instrument is simply gorgeous and looks as new. This Ukulele seems to have been brought home from Hawaii and rarely played. THERE ARE NO CRACKS? This ukulele plays wonderfully and has a rich, sweet tone and a strong full volume.

ISSUES: There are very light marks (not scratches) on the bottom back corner, perhaps from a player’s belt, but this is barely visible. The first fret has what seems to be some finger nail wear on the wood. The tuners are working but 3 have cracks in the plastic part and would need to be repaired or replaced. The top is a bit sunken, but if you look at the photos you will see it is very slight. I have rehydrated the instrument which seems to have improved it some. I assume would improve with more hydration treatment.

It comes with what seems to be the original board case which has leather handle. The case is in good condition for its age, but the instrument would need a proper sturdier case. There is a cool customs sticker on the case (the sticker has been re-glued to the case).
