Inspired By Saltytri I made this bracket so that I can mount a Kress Router to my bench drill..I converted this old drilling machine into a light miller some years ago and added an X Y table....It's a great machine but some times I needed the higher revs on some hardwood workpieces..so now i can use the router as well as the main spindle.

Ken, That's a great idea. Nice machine work too! This with a rotary table would be great for rosettes

You're a never ending fountain of great ideas Ken! Cool!

Always nice to see what you are doing in your shop. Thanks Ken. Question Please: What are the requirements of a drilling press, to be changed to a light milling machine . I am particularly interested what fittings the drill press needs, to fit an X-Y table ? The make of my drill press = KIRA IRON WORKS co JAPAN. Belt driven. A decent old but usefull machine.
It is a desk / table model..

You need a heavy cast iron machine ideally with lots of mass..The drill chuck replaced with a collet chuck with drawbar..for the X-Y table you can use a cross vice as a cheaper option (I used one for years before I bought the X-Y table) Cross vice

Do you do ironwork, Tim? Wall hanging type stuff.

Looks good Ken. What do you suggest for a "poor man's" rotary table for rosettes?

How did you make the parting cut at the hole? That ninety degree turn looks like you started in the hole and stopped, then cut from the outside to the previous cut.

Found another site worth a look :)

I'd like to add...Through personal experience i found gripping a milling cutter in the drill chuck don't work....due to sideways pressure and vibrations the morse taper on the drill chuck soon comes loose and the chuck plus cutter drops out onto the workpiece and causes untold damage:mad:..you need some way of holding the chuck in the taper bore so that it can't come out...most people drill the spindle and fit a drawbar..but i use another way:D...I'll take some pic's and show later.
