Hi everyone. I just bought a ukelele. The shop guy reversed the tuning to make it left handed but I just read that the middle strings have to be transposed. Do I need to transpose the two middle strings or is it alright to just reverse the tuning?

cheers, Bill

Welcome, Bill, to the forums.

For optimum string tension, the lowest pitched string should be the thickest, and the highest pitched the thinnest.
So yes, the middle strings should be physically reversed.
The outside strings, since they're so close in pitch, are not a big deal.

Have fun with it.

Thanks Dave. The shop was busy so I suppose the rep found the quickest way to achieve a tuned LH uke. I will swap the strings over. I assume it is an easy thing to do.

It is easy. Esp. when swapping only two strings you still have the outer strings as a "knot reference" at the bridge.

Well my uke doesn't look as neat as it did but the strings are swapped. I has made a vast difference to the feel of the instrument.
