Hi all

weird question I know, but here goes

on the inside of the aquila strings packet there is a replica of a old book page detailing how to get ukulele strings before they were more common place. it involved using half banjo strings and half guitar strings, can any one with a packet please advise me on what it says or even better put up a copy. my local store is out of aquila strings currently, and i'm planning on cutting down a homemade 4 string electric guitar and converting it to a uke but i will need steel strings if its to make any sound.

or if you know where to get steel uke strings that would be cool too

many thanks in advance

Cliff

Here's the excerpt from the left flap of the packaging . . .

"...For the 1st and 4th strings, use banjo thisrd string gut."
"...For the 2nd and 3rd strings, use Violin "E" strings."

The above selection of strings is usually the most satisfactory, but owing to differences in instruments and individual ideas regarding tonal quality. It is well to experiment with strings until the desired tone quality is obtained.

If the instrument sounds weak or thin try heavier strings such as a Viola "E" and "A". If, on the contrary, the tone is flat or dead use lighter strings such as Banjo 2nd and 3rd.
