OK- so if I play a song with all open chords it's usually pretty easy.

And if I play a song with all closed chords, not as easy, but possible.

But songs in which I need to jump from open to closed chord and back again, forcing me to swivel my hand from finger tips on the fretboard to full length of the finger, at this time this seems near impossible to do quickly.

Is this just a skill that gets developed with time?

Any tips, tricks, hints, learning pointers to share?

thanks!

Another case of practice practice practice.

It's all muscle memory. Just work on the funkier transitions until you can get them smoother.
I'm pretty much a decent intermediate player and there's stuff I'm still working on for that.
It's work and fun. enjoy the process.
