Hi everyone,

I made the same recording with Ko'olau golds and New Nylguts on my Mahi Mahi MT-87 G (Solid Mahogany). I would like to know your opinions about both string sets.

Great playing on both tracks. In my opinion go for the Golds! I think they had a warmer tone.

I preferred the golds. To my ear, they had more clarity, and definition, I could hear the notes better. The Nylguts, sounded a little muddy and muted to me. Interesting that Osprey referred to the golds as warmer, I would describe them as having a brighter sound. Just goes to show you that you have to go with your own ear.

Thanks for the feedback. It is a big surprise for me because many people consider that Nylguts are brighter than Golds. With my ukulele and playing style I feel that Golds are brighter, the sustain is longer and the note definition is better than Nylguts.

The Aquilas were a bit muted and muddy but a bit warmer.
The Golds were clear and louder but a tad bright to my ears.
I generally prefer fluorocarbon strings.

Nice comparison file. Great playing!
