Contest: February Album Writing Month

this is actually a great idea-- I'm a huge nanowrimo supporter/participant, and this is a great way to stretch your creatitivity.

G'luck to you, odds are I'll be attempting it as well.

Just to be clear

I just found out about this ... but I'm doing it. It's like NaNoWriMo for songwriters. Check out these links.

Fourteen songs in 28 days. An album in a month. No video required, just recording your own songs. Who's up for it?

But http://www.rpmchallenge.com/content/view/844/1/ ...
That’s 10 songs or 35 minutes of original material recorded during the month of February.

FAWM is 14 songs in 28 days. RPM is 10 songs/35 minutes in 28 days.

I'm thinking if you do the 14 songs in 28 days, it will very likely exceed the 35 minute rule at RPM. Last year (since it was leap year) they apparently did 14 and 1/2 songs. Very funny people running that contest! It also appears they're okay with previously WRITTEN songs as long as you RECORD them during February. I do NaNoWriMo every year and it's the basis for my year long literary efforts. I'm certain this contest will go a long way toward giving me songs to fiddle with for a long time to come. Last June I wrote a song every day and about eight of them are actually pretty good (to me).

Write some instrumentals, split up the songwriting duties amongst band members, form an RPM side project, write songs on the piano or clarinet instead of your primary instrument, make that metal album you’ve always wanted to - buy a ukulele! Just do your best to make the best album you can. Be unafraid.

That's it, I'm sold. Maybe. I'm picking up projects all over the place already this month. I may have to compress it to "an album in a weekend" to fit it in.

So let's see if I've got this straight...

FAWM = Write 14 songs. Doesn't matter if you record them, but you do have to write them during the month. (I might be down with this one...)

RPM Challenge = Record 10 songs. Doesn't matter if you've already written them, but you do have to record them during the month.

Is that a fair assessment?

RPM and FAWM

That's how I'm reading it too JJ. I'm also aware that there doesn't seem to be a police escort on this one, so I'm going to write some new ones and dig out some old ones (and pretty them up a bit) and then start doing my typically miserable job of recording. All this digital technology and I still sound like I'm recording onto cassette tape. Of course that's the musician's fault, not the equipment. :)

Okay, I signed up for FAWM. :uhoh:

I missed the first couple days of the month (obviously), but I did manage to come up with two half-songs last night. Maybe I'll be able to pull it off over the next 23 days.

We need more UU'ers on there! :shaka:

Only thing, please let us see your stuff! Dont hide your music away.

(pulls out the paper to write silly little dittys.)

I can do 14 songs.
I can do this.

Ooops. I guess we have two FAWM threads. Meant to post to this one. Anyway, I finished all my songs and uploaded them. I sound even worse than usual due to a murderous cold I developed over the last week and it wouldn't go away. I learn now I didn't actually have to have them recorded, just written, but in any event they're on tape and my brain hurts. How did the rest of you FAWM stars come out? You have until midnight on Saturday to have your 14 songs written. They only have to be written, not recorded. Let me know how it came out for you.
