Hi all,

I wrote this (rather silly) song about being a parent. It's called 'Parental Epaulettes' - you know - the shoulder-pad things you get when you've got little kids. Shoulders covered in snot, crusty old food, all that stuff - the true mark of a parent. It was written and played on the uke, but I've added various other bits of instrumentation to make it sound a bit fuller...

I hope you like it.

The lyrics are:

When you first become a Dad
They hand you two black bags,
Which usually takes you by surprise.
But you give them pride of place,
You attach them to your face,
One underneath each one of your eyes.

CHORUS:
And you wear your parental epaulettes with pride.
Fixed onto your shoulders, one each side.
And they're both firmly glued
With mucus and old food,
There's no removing Weetabix that's dried
(Trust me, I've tried).

The other thing you get
Is a piece of silver thread
Around about the same length as your hair.
You attach it to your head,
Then you watch the colour spread
Til you find that you've got silver everywhere.

CHORUS

Then they give you a piece of card
With a picture of your heart.
A guide to all the newly added parts.
And it makes you realise
That there's loads of room inside.
And that's when being a parent really starts.

CHORUS.

Ok, I get the hint. This is the video forum, right? So I made a video for the song. It doesn't contain anybody playing the uke, but you can't have it all, can you?
