a humble run at this most beautiful of songs, just playing the chords and bringing out the melody on a Black Bear soprano

At work so cannot listen now. :(
One I want to play, but cannnot pick so trying to work out how to sucessfully strum it.
It's a beautiful song, brough to my attention by Manitoba Hal, (I was lucky to see him when he was last in England), who does a superb rendition of it.
(Just had a freudian slip there as I wrote Misissipi Hal!)

Good job on a fun song Jon. Hopefully we'll get a version with vocals someday????

Thanks for sharing

I've spent the last year since I started on this path listening to your work. Someday if I practice hard enough, I hope to get there... but man, you sure set the bar pretty high :)
Feel free to toss any friendly advice my way!!

Cheers
Hendrik

Inspirational. Thanks

For those who don't have them, lyrics.
Let the mermaids flirt with me

Blues all on the ocean, blues all in the air.
Can't stay here no longer, I have no steamship fare.
When my earthly trials are over, carry my body out in the sea.
Save all the undertaker bills, let the mermaids flirt with me.

I do not work for pleasure, earthly peace I'll see no more.
The only reason I work at all, is drive the world from my door.
When my earthly trials are over, carry my body out in the sea.
Save all the undertaker bills, let the mermaids flirt with me.

My wife controls our happy home, a sweetheart I can not find.
The only thing I can call my own, is a troubled and a worried mind.
When my earthly trials are over, carry my body out in the sea.
Save all the undertaker bills, let the mermaids flirt with me.

Blues all in my body, my darling has forsaken me.
If I ever see her face again, I have to swim across the sea.
When my earthly trials are over, carry my body out in the sea.
Save all the undertaker bills, let the mermaids flirt with me.

Blues all on the ocean, blues all in the air.
Can't stay here no longer, I have no steamship fare.
When my earthly trials are over, carry my body out in the sea.
Save all the undertaker bills, let the mermaids flirt with me.

Great stuff Jon. Really captured the feeling of this one. MJH is a favorite if mine. I always love how he played these blues in such a joyous light-hearted manner. I had the great pleasure of playing his sunburst Guild one afternoon. It is my favorite musical moment. Can you imagine playing Candy Man, Slidin Delta, Satisfied on the same guitar that MJH himself once banged out those tunes. Still gives me chills.

Thankyou guys, so much. In truth I didn't even know of this song until the day I recorded it. My friend Trevor played a version of it in C and I loved the melody so had a go at a simple arrangement myself. Sure Jim, I'll learn the words one of these days and try and sing it, the lyrics are sweet as, thanks Hms for putting them up.

Josh, man, amazing experience and what a blessing. Would love to have a similar moment to share one day. Precious mate.
