I had a chance to hold the professor's uke when it was still in pieces and Rick told me the story behind the wood when I went to his workshop to decide what my next Compass Rose was going to be. :)

Here's hoping all our beloved ukuleles are imbued with "mana".

PS: Jake's concert at Bing in April is sold out already but there are still tickets available for his concert at the Rio in Santa Cruz on Feb. 14.

Thank you for sharing that-- what a cool story! And surprisingly geek-tastic for a mainstream publication; they actually let him talk for nearly 3 minutes about ukulele construction!

Thanks for sharing. Rick enjoys repurposing wood, and his ukuleles (and guitars) are unquestionably (and unfailingly) beautiful sounding, whatever wood he uses to build them.

There's another thread about this story.
