Hi i just started playing the ukulele but the one i got for christmas turned out to be a toy. i was just wondering what uke i should get for my first. I'm willing to spend up to $100 but i'm not sure what brands are the best.. if anyone could help that'd be great!

Kamoa from the UU store are nice for about $100, or a Kala from MGM on ebay would be a nice choice as well.

I have several Kala ukes and I think they are a good uke for the money.

I also suggest the Kala. It is a nice ukulele for not too high a price. I think there is a mango one on sale on here right now.

I would also suggest the Kala. I play the Kala Concert KA-SC. It is a nice ukulele and the price is reasonable.

i 2nd the Kala KA-C it is my first and only uke, i love mine to death. the extra 20 or so is completely worth if because you get it set up by the Master MGM, and you get a spiffy case for it too.

How 'bout a Flea?

Really though, it depends on how much you want to spend.

Try using the forum search function with "beginner ukulele" and you will find some... and then more... and THEN even more! threads that may give you an idea of what you are looking for. Have fun shopping.
