I started playing a tenor ukulele 3 1/2 months ago.
About 3 weeks ago I started using the 'Hanon for Ukulele' exercise and scales book generously contributed by Uke of Carl (www.ukeofcarl.com). (I'm not affiliated in any way, just grateful.)
It's part of my practice regimen. It has greatly helped my fretting fingers to move more quickly, and dare I say, gracefully along the fretboard. (Well, I'm not tripping on my fingers as badly as before).
Personally, I enjoy the scale exercises; I'm convinced I'm training my ear also (I'm hearing 'bad' notes better).
So if you're a beginner, check it out.
