Hello everyone!

I've been a silent watcher on this forum for a while now and have gotten a lot of great information. So thank you all for your help in making me a hobbiest builder!

I'm wondering where builders (hobbiest and professionals) get their tuning pegs/machines?

Is there a specific wholesale place you go? I've found a place for fret wire, bindings, strings etc. but not for pegs.

I'm asking because I'm building a bass uke among others. Any options for pegs that would fit thundergut strings would be great!

There are so many sources of parts out there. Stew Mac is one, but there are a ton.
For tuners for Thunderguts, see the Kala store.

I get the Gotoh friction tuners I favor from All Parts.

i've been thinking about a similar project. here are a few things I have found. I think you want to look for hipshot ultralight bass tuners. they have both a US made and a less expensive Licensed Import (LIC) model.

here are a few links, you can probably find cheaper if you look around:
as mentioned, Kala. they sell the tuners individually.

RoadToad has USA and licensed imports:

I've been using Peghed tuners from UU member TheCraftedCow, here's his website: http://www.pegheds.net

The Large Sound site at one time sold the Ashbory-style tuners for Uke bass, here's a build article:

From me..I'm a Hipshot distributor, but I don't distribute as much as I use for myself. I actually play bass, but I didn't get on board until I discovered their mini open geared "guitar" tuning machines.

Of course I have Hipshot Ultralight and brass bridges on my basses. Nice balance with that setup.
