I have a problem with a new uke, it plays lovely s long as you are very gentle and play softly. The minute you start picking more firmly and especially if you pick more vertically the sound becomes very harsh and there is a clicky clacky sound added to the note. I'm pretty sure this is the string hitting the frets as it vibrates. This is particulally pronounced on the middle two strings and especially from the 3rd or 4th fret down.
I have tried lifting the bridge a little by adding a few pieces of card under it as a test to see if it helps and it does, a little but the sound is still there.
Any suggestions please?
