What do you mean by mouldy oldies?

A mouldy oldie is a song that you have sung before for another season and reused for this season
Just want new songs sung for this season only.

is that Ok?
fabulous fred has one hundred and twenty, count them, ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY vids on his blues week playlist - AND THE PARTY'S NOT EVEN OVER YET

i only posted about a hundred and two vids so eighteen of that current count isn't even my fault!

;)

but that huge-mungous vid count is what can happen if people go video mad, and there is no (or not much of a) limit on how many songs you can do

no limit is great if you are participating but it's a practical and logistical nightmare if you're hosting - i put a limit on the number of songs when i was hosting, and i think a fair to middling number of hosts do some kind of limit

Me and the wife were up late and just kinda giggling about nonsense anyway, so here we go. I left the ending in where I had just realized I messed up a bit. Wife made a vocal cameo lol.

The melody is inspired from Your Love is Like a Flower, but really...every bluegrass song known to man, is GCD (or I, IV, V) so it's hard to pin it on one tune.

Approximate Lyrics:
Oh they tell me this thing is called a rhombus
Got 4 sides but it ain't no common square
If you watch this video then you might notice
I've got a beard but I ain't got no hair.

It's like a globe right here above my face dear
Like a circle shining bright up in the sky
It sparkles like the cleanest cut of diamonds
But if you stare it might cause trauma to your eyes.

Break

But they tell me this thing is called a rhombus
it's irrelevant to this song but who cares
If the lyrics were all structured and well played dear
You all might think I was square.

Cold, cold heart is about an organ but Heart shaped box is about a geometric shape :)

But then most diamond songs are about jewellery not the shape..

For the challenge of the week No.

So heart is in and stars too, there are tons of songs that are out there that don't mention
Heart and Stars, for the challenge find one of those and then use the

Here is my entry. Little Boxes. I am accompanying myself with my new Pineapple iUke piccolo which brought its own problems. Due to the different tuning I decided to play it in the key of Bb on my Martin Uke and as the iUke is tuned an octave lower this was played using fingering for the C major key. I think thats technically correct way of describing it (someone will no doubt put me right if I'm wrong).
I also originally wanted to copy Thunderfleas technique he used for season 102 but filmed it and then realised I'd got my perspectives totally wrong so went with picture in picture instead. Anyway, enough waffle. Here it is. ;)

Wouldn't the piccolo be tuned an octave higher - and are both ukes tuned to Bb (F-Bb-D-G)? In that case, using chord shapes that belong to the key of C major would indeed result in a song played in Bb.

Whatevs. Nice work. Takes me back to Ed 'Stewpot' Stuart and 'Junior Choice' :)

this is a bonus vid - the song has the word "star" in it - i wanted to stick to super-strictly mathematical gemometric "we did this at school" sort of shapes - but it's such a lovely song i wanted to give it a go anyway!

i couldn't find any chords or tab that worked for me - which may be because i'm singing it all wrong!

Ok if you say so but I thought F was lower than G. As for the tuning the answer is NO. The Martin is tuned G-C-E-A and the song is played in the key of Bb using Bb shapes (i.e. Bb, Eb, Dm, F7 etc). The iUke is tuned F-Bb-D-G and played using C major shapes (C, F, Em, Dm etc) which means its in tune with the Martin which is playing in the key of Bb.

When I first saw the theme, I thought. "Have I got a song that fits the theme?" Nothing came instantly to mind. I read through the titles of the songs I've got on the PC and nothing leapt out at me. So, I dug out my old exercise book of songs from my distant past and as I turned the pages came across a love song of mine that I had almost forgotten: "Pyramid" - in which a wise 23 year old Berni, who had recently fallen madly in love with a lass ((once again)) compares the building of a relationship to the building of a Pyramid.

So, here, getting its first public airing in almost thirty years, is "Pyramid" - a song I wrote for Claire, a girlfriend I was hoping to have and hold forever - but who left me after less than six months. Still, I got a nice song out of it ;)

Yes, I think the response contain's "I will marry your daughter Janet but I'll not be a Lord of your land." I was just saying that I'd made a mistake in the line offering the Land as a dowry by singing "I'll make you a KING of my land."

Hardly pedantic and much help, thanks. I'd been using this info:
Dick Gaughan used the Fause Foodrage tune that Andy Irvine set to Willy of Winsbury, though he maybe changed it just a little.
And, you're correct of course, I meant to copy the following (From Andy Irvine's notes I think)
You can change the first two chords (G,D) for
(em,bm) in some verses to make the song more
exciting.
Child #100, melody: Child # 89: Fause Foodrage

As I know it, Willie accepts the daughter but spurns the land as he has land of his own.

Aha. See what you mean. F5 is one tone lower than G5, of course, but F6, which is what your piccolo's tuned to, is 7 tones higher. That's why I suggested an octave higher (I wasn't sure about the Martin's tuning). I suppose to be accurate, you'd say the Martin was tuned to C4 (middle C) and the piccolo to Bb5 (7 tones higher).

As to losing you on Stewpot? Keep them gums flapping grandad xx

Ah yes your rationale about tunings makes perfect sense. Thank you for clarifying for me. Still haven't got a Danny La Rue what your on about with Stewpot and gums and granddads though. ;)

I recorded this one while sitting in a car, waiting to pick up a family member from an appointment. Rather than settle for a particular shape, I went with "Shapes" right in the title--ukuloonie, let me know if I'm doing it wrong, in which case this can be a bonus. My all-time favorite vague song title (hallucinogens are a hell of a drug)--"Shapes of Things", by the Yardbirds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjPyE19NcjM
If my son and I can get it together before the week is up, I also promise (as a bonus, probably) a mashup of two very different songs with "Diamonds" in their titles...

I have a new video camera. This thing is amazing. Just starting to scratch the surface of what it can do, and along comes a Seasons of the Ukulele challenge that inspires me and provides an underlying theme from which I can go out and shoot some scenes at work and at the park near my home here in Bangkok.

I'm hoping you can guess the theme because normally, I wouldn't take footage of flower pots and fireplugs.

The song I'm covering is a bit out of my vocal range, but I hope I haven't butchered it too badly.

The sunset, the macro images, the couple play fighting on the park bench: my old camera wouldn't have captured these little bits of Thailand nearly as well as my new camera did. So looking forward to exploring its capabilities more fully.

ooh greenie - genius! i never thought of "arrow"...

of course, no disrespect at all to your song choice, but the best song ever at all in the history of the known universe, and indeed of many mysterious unknown and possibly parallel universes, to make use of the word arrow, is "poison arrow" by abc (indeed it may quite possibly be just the best song ever at all in the history of the known universe, and indeed of many mysterious unknown and possibly parallel universes, regardless of using the word arrow or not)

blah

anyway you inspired me to go find/invent some chords and see if i can sing it anywhere other than the bath

The Auld Triangle" is a song rumoured to be written by Dominic Behan for his brother Brendan Behan,
made famous by The Dubliners. Dominic never credited the song to himself on any recordings he made of it.
Other rumours suggest it was a prison song to which Behan added verses, but the fact that he never credits
himself in writing the song suggests that the true authorship is unknown.

The triangle in the title refers to the large metal triangle which was beaten daily in Mountjoy Prison to
waken the inmates ("The Auld Triangle goes Jingle Jangle"). The triangle still hangs in the prison at the
centre where the wings meet on a metal gate. It is no longer used, though the hammer to beat it is mounted beside it.

Glen Hansard did a version of it with a friend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHcr6ae3TDY) and I have used those chords.

I didn't think I would be able to get a song in this week, but hey! Here it is!
We're in the middle of an attic conversion and there's stuff everywhere. The kids are staying at Saskia's mother to spare them the construction mayhem. Saskia went to her mother's house today. After the builders left and I finished moving around 'stuff', I finally found my song. I have a lot of boxes these past few days. First I didn't think box would qualify, but I've seen somebody else do it, so why not.

This song takes us back to 1996. I remember seeing the video with Tilda Swinton in it on MTV and always was intrigued by the song. The album In Sides It's called The Box-part 2 and it's by British dance music duo Orbital. I went a little overboard with mulittracking. That's pretty much impossible with a piece of ambient dance music like this. I "borrowed" some stock footage of a cardboard box on a conveyor for the video and added a lot of out of sync clips of myself... Hope you like it! (Better use headphones, or you'll miss half of it...)

I think my entry is perhaps (and rather depressingly) late :(
I thought this weeks theme - geometric shapes - was really terrific. I had a tough time finding something and eventually decided that windows can be rectangles, squares or even circles. So, I did a campanella arrangement of Smash the Windows - which is such a great tune! Getting my fingers around proved quite a challenge. So, here it is….Apologies if it is late… Hope you enjoy it anyway :)

Sorry, y'all ... this is what happens when it's Sunday night and you still haven't figured out what shape song to do. I'm pretty sure this is by far the quickest Seasons video I've ever made - certainly the simplest and shortest.

Believe it or not, this song was FiL's idea. (For me. I'm pretty sure he'd never be caught dead doing it himself.)
Yeah, that's right. It's his fault. I had nothing to do with it.

Features a prominent geometric shape ... and a bonus ukulele shape. Which happens to be the shape of the uke I'm playing ... so how could I not?

http://youtu.be/NiYPqcdDzlM

Oh, and I said the wrong Season. Please count it. Please don't make me do a second take. :)

(Since it's also Season 104 now, I had my best hat out, which is perfect for this song. I love the serendipity of the Seasons, don't you?!)

Please excuse the hyperbola (I owe you an apogee), but I was quadrilaterally in prism ... caught in a trapezoid ... till I could curve out the space to have egg go at my own sliver of a hump-bell off-ring, however plane. Surfacely, itís not the equilateral of the others ... U L have no parallelogram. But helical get the point a cross.

Rhombus cube myself now - octagon work out my deltoids on the elliptical. Can't ovoid it any longer ... gotta get in SHAPE!

Icosahedron later! Iíll be cylinder over at Season 104. (Hope that wasn't too obtuse.)

Enneadecagon for a great Season.

PS, I was tempted to write a dodecahedron song ... maybe I still will.
PPS, love your accent. Funny, you don't sound Canadian.
