National Geographic has this new nature/survival docudrama, “The Legend of Mick Dodge.” They report that Mick Dodge has been living in the forest with merely the very bare essentials for 25 years. At the end of the episode where he gathers his gear stashes, and hunkers down to spend the winter living in a tree stump, he busts out an ukulele. The episode closes to him singing a song (that he may have written) while he plays (quite nicely), what appears to be a baritone ukulele with a log g). I could not find any excerpt footage on YouTube of him playing, though.

Yeah, I'd seen it in another episode. Just regular linear baritone tuning.

In that kind of isolation, a ukulele is invaluable. Of course, I find the ukulele invaluable in my life, even with all the creature comforts. Wintering in a tree stump - wow!
