@Kissing ----Motorcycle every time.....even one with a sidecar....but ....what does that mean .....?
Each .....bloody hell that's a lot of ukes ....and a pizza box ? (your picture) to his own ....
@ WashAshore --hmmmm sounds like you may be hankering for a guitar more than a uke.....no problem ...The baritone (and I do not play one ,but do know my way round a guitar) is as you say two strings short of being a guitar.......the chord shapes therefore look similar but make different chords to the baby ukes so an inverted triangle of fingers in first position on a Sop C or T will be:
G I -0------
C I -2------
E I -1------
A I -2------- G7
D I -0------
G I -2------
B I -1------
E I -2------- D7 on a Baritone.........the scales are also slightly different.........
The playing styles will be different to a degree as well...the Sop and Concert ukes deliver a more punchy and staccato sound ....they can still ring out and sound like little mandolins, harps (Celtic not the great big thingies) and lyres in the right hands....but will never have the comparatively gravelly, more sedate and sombre tones of the Bari.....
To get the sound differences in a pleasant easy listening and informal surrounding try some of the videos on the Seasons of The Ukulele pages....there are all sorts of Bari and other tunes ....all played by real people ....so you will get some real honest and down to earth playing to compare the sound....
The extra two bass strings that you get with a guitar bring a whole new slew of different chording shapes and other things ......I don't know your age ...if you are still young then this should have no problem ....if you are an older person then the extra spread of the left hand to accommodate chords may become an issue....I have picked my uke again only fairly recently because it hurts quicker these days to chord on the guit .....and I'm only 55 !!....Yes Ancient to some !!
But anyhoo.......there you have tuppence worth of input....Bari or Guitar....both have the same voicings , chord shapes over four of the strings and tuning.....both would be interchangeable ....both would be my vote if you have the dosh .....both seem to play similar ....
