Hey,
I've been playing my Oscar Shmidt OU-3 concert for a while now and i want to get a tenor now aswell. I was thinking either the Lanikai CK-TEQ http://www.lanikaiukes.com/ukuleles.html#cks
or a Cordoba mohogany uke:
http://cordobaguitars.com/101.php

My price range is about $250 and i have found both of them online for around this price. Which do you think i should get? And if you think i'm making a horrible mistake in both of those choices, what would be a better option?
p.s. I would preferably like active pickup and i think the cut away style is pretty cool, though it is not a necessity.

Thanks,
Dan

If I was going for an electric tenor, I'd get this:

Or this:

Or THIS!! (HINT, HINT):

I'm sure the ukes you mentioned are nice. I have a Lanikai and I love it. But its really the vendor that makes all the difference here. Unless you have a local vendor whom you can go back to with any problems, I'd get one of the Kala tenors from MGM.

the first one mentioned above is good, it soounds really nice... ive played it before. Overall pretty cheap aswell.

Koa pili koko whooooooo

DoodlesMcDeezleLippy, Holdin Coffee's list is pretty good. I had the first one, the "jazz" uke, for a couple days but then exchanged it for the last one on his list, the solid mahahony. The solid wood made such an impression on me soundwise that I thought it was well worth the extra $50... the difference in sound was very obvious.

The pick up sounds very good, too.

I was playin a Cordoba a couple of weeks ago and was NOT impressed,
The Kala ASMT Solid Mahogany on the other hand....Pretty nice sound and playability for the money.

I have to piggyback on this quote. I did not like the cordoba for the price. I have a kala tenor mango that sounds almost as good as my solid koa tenor but not quite as good. If you can afford a solid wood go with it. Look at the koa pili koko ukes. Solid wood brand new around $300.

So due to your guy's suggestions I checked out some of the Kala ukes and I like them alot, the question now is should i get the solid mahogany or should I spend an extra 20 bucks and get the spalted flame maple which has a solid spruce top and mahogany binding?

I have yet to try a Cordoba that was properly constructed and/or setup well. FWIW, I'd advise saving some cash and looking into a Bushman or, if possible, a Pono.

Solid mahogany over laminate maple any day. Second the Pono, a solid mahogany, trade up some day to koa but you probably won't be able to let it go. I love love love my Pono koa tenor, it is slick as snot to play, sounds so sweet! Even when I'm just fumbling around because I have so little skill, it makes everything sound better, and it is so well made. Mmm. MGM just got some Ponos in I think there are two with pickups. I'm waiting for a second, a mango concert, if I can keep treading water financially. With all my retirement gone, kinda living in the moment, the ukes sure help with THAT! ;)

I have a KalaMT curly mango tenor and I absolutely love it. Plays beautifully, stays in tune for a long time, and I get lots of compliments on its looks.
