This month of March we present the Roy Smeck “Vita” ukulele. Not a soprano, not a concert…it’s a Concerano! Sort of rolls off the tongue doesn't it? Be sure not to miss UkeJam By The Bay on March 29th in San Francisco where we'll have some of these fine vintage ukuleles on display. Many more vintage examples on the way soon.

Excellent as always gentlemen! Thank you for sharing this wonderful series.

And if the series ends when Ryan and Jay run out of ukes, we'll be seeing it for a few years to come. lol

*I really like the black background. Pro, gentlemen. I think the sound may be a tad harsh--echoey--slightly boxy, as if you both climbed into a Kiwaya to record it. LOL , but it might be my Bose computer speakers, though:)

Hi Steve, thanks. Yeah we'll be shooting through this year and into next ;-)

The audio I have to adjust as I was really focusing on the new lighting set up, color rendition of the video so I wouldn't have to do any post processing and shooting with a different camera/lens set up and so this video and the next few we shoot definitely aren't focused on that "Bose" audio sound ;-)

Episode 10 will have the new audio set up that should be like we're talking right out of your Bose. I might just stick mics in front of us too..off to the side but about 6 inches away. For now you'll have to enjoy the Kiwaya reverberations. :agree:

Cheers!

Thanks for watchin!

Thanks, Jay. It really is great stuff. Your videos have gone from in the living room, shoot with so-so lighting (albeit, a with a Canon EOS 7D, nice!) to being now with professional lighting and backdrops and, soon, sound. Listen, if you ever get tired of ukuleles, I hear you can make fistfuls of cash filming the more randy stuff (and I'm not talking exotic instruments here).

Cheers, Ryan and Jay. -Steve

Nice video. Thanks.

A couple of notes about the uke. Those tuners are definitely not the original. My Vita uke has the original tuners which are Grovers with smaller sized buttons. That is also not the original bridge. From what I've seen there were a few variations on the bridge over the years, but the bridge on that uke is not one of them. Also, I've also got the Ohana which sort of looks like the Vita, but like Ohana's other modern interpretations of older ukes it is much more cheaply made and really doesn't sound anything like it.
