Deach blessed me with 2 TV Pal plastic ukuleles after I broke mine while playing Violent Femmes. Which means I have an extra. Which means that it's time for a contest!!!

What you have to do: Interpret a song from the 1980's.

Rules:

If you have an ukulele, you must use it. BUT, if you don't have an ukulele yet, you can still participate! Sing a capella. Do a poetry reading of your favorite 80's song. Or act it out. If you use other instruments, they must accompany an ukulele. (Does that make sense?) You can enter as many times as you'd like!

Post the video(s) on YouTube and then post a link to the video in this thread. You will be judged by how clever (EDIT: To clarify, by "clever" I mean how original your take on the song is) your video is, as judged by me.

Deadline: Saturday, February 28, 12 midnight Eastern. Winner will be announced the first week in March.

80's... AWESOME!

question, if its a song like, say, Just a Gigaloo (David Lee Roth), but was a cover from a previous era (I think that was composed by Mozart originally) is it still considered an 80's song?

ahhhhh this sounds like fun!
i'm gunna try 'take on me'..lol
whoo hoo high pitch screeching! :p

I think he was bad to the bone then...

I'm sure he performed "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" at least once in the '80s, right? How about I give that a shot?

It might be interesting playing this sober.

You know, on second thought, this song would be an immensely bad idea. Back to the drawing board with me.

Just to clarify, songs written before the '80's are okay - only if they were covered by a group in the 1980's. "Boy from NYC" was covered by Manhattan Tranfer in the 80's, for example. Boy, somebody could do THAT one! :D

It just occurred to me that my camera and microphone both suck.

I need to get to wal-mart or something soon...

You will be judged by how clever your video is, as judged by me.

What does this mean, Alan? I understand "clever" to mean intelligent. Are you looking for an original take on an '80's song or an interesting video?

Thanks Alan

"An original take on an '80's song" is the best way to describe my idea of "clever".

If I manage to get a good camera/microphone, I think I'll try a song by the Pretenders.

If not, I'll just get to work on my own contest.
