Can pickup port double as a strap button? Newbie

I have a Pono ukulele that came with an under the saddle pickup. On the female port for the pickup on the outside of the ukulele, there is a metal piece with a groove that screws onto the port.
1) Can this metal piece be used as a button strap?
2) If I use the metal piece as a button strap, is there any danger I will loosen the female pickup port for the saddle pickup or damage the saddle pickup?

1. Yes, that's what the groove is for.
2. No, although it doesn't hurt to check it every now and then to make sure it's tight (but not too tight).
