I am a beginner uke player & also a beginner in posting herein - so be gentle if I am in the wrong place to ask a "wood" question.

I am going to buy an all-solid-wood (i.e., non-laminated) tenor in the near future, equipped with a low-G string set. The online shop I am planning to buy from offers cedar tops & mahogany tops. As the topic line states, I want to chose whichever of these two woods (cedar or mahogany) is more likely to produce a tenor uke with a dark, mellow, resonant sound.

Your comments &/or advice would be VERY much appreciated.

All things being equal, soundboard quality/thickness, construction, strings, etc, the Mahogany would normally be less bright, but I'd have to play some and judge for myself. I also have a bias in favor of ebony for nuts and saddles if you want to maximize that "woody" sound. The right strings will be a huge factor in effort to get the sound(s) you want.
