Well actually, did he go down to the 'bar' or the 'barre'?:nana:

Why are barre chords called 'barre' chords not 'bar' chords. The fingers form a 'bar' across the neck so I just wondered why the formation was referred to as 'barre' rather than 'bar'.

"Barre" is French for "bar." A lot of musical terms derive from other languages, many from Italian, but some from French, like barre and etude (study).

I am going to guess its french because in ballet it is also called a Barre

as in the barre you stick your feet up on to stretch!
