Song Help Request Stuck In Rhythm Purgatory

I have little trouble writing lyrics, rhythm and chord progressions are another thing.
I seem to fall into the same pattern time-after-time. Having little talent or knowledge
of music theory is most likely to blame. I have a learning disability and hit a wall every
time I try to learn. I've tried instructors several times, they all either gave up or kept
repeating the same lessons. Anyone else stuck, did you find a way out?

I get bogged down by only knowing some chord progressions. Since I am an avid lyricist, I have found it most helpful to just write the words and then turn it over to a friend. I have several friends who will attach a more challenging music sequence than I would have. Then I have to learn it in order to play my own song! It is a great way to stay challenged!

Do you practice to a metronome?

Doctor Uke may help! Playing through lots of familiar songs might just be what you need. At least you'll have an opportunity to become comfortable with a variety of chord progressions and rhythm patterns. Hope this helps!
