It's been a super long time since I participated in any contest on UU (any contest for that matter). I keep coming back to the contest thread and kept seeing the "Seasons" thread.

Would somebody be so kind and explain what it's all about and how I can participate?

Thanks!
Rommel

I think Ginny explains it really well in this thread:

It is a weekly video "competition" (in quotes, because most people are just having fun, not competing. Each week has a different host and a different theme. While each host is free to set the rules for his/her week, they stay pretty much the same each week: do a video of yourself performing a song that is consistent with the theme. The criteria for winning change from week to week (sometimes the host selects, sometimes winners are chosen randomly), and there are usually prizes.

I'm hosting this week (Season 110), with the theme Art & Artists. Check it out here:

I like uke4ia's description on his YT channel: "It's a weekly contest/open mic" - at any rate, that's how I like to think of it :)

Seasons = FUN!

It's also a wonderful, supportive, welcoming community, a weekly challenge to our creativity on all sorts of levels, and (in my experience) the fastest, funnest way to grow your uke-playing skills and comfort level.

Oh, and did I mention it's really fun?

It's also FUN.

I invite you to go Right Now to that link Rich posted (http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?94252-Season-110-of-the-Ukulele-Art-and-Artists!) and introduce yourself. [For anybody seeing this later on, go here (http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/forumdisplay.php?47-Seasons-of-the-Ukulele) to find the thread for the current Season and do it there.] Then go pick a song about art and artists [or, Future Person, whatever the current theme happens to be], and make us a video. People there will help you with how to do all that if you have questions.

PS, it's Really, Really Fun.

Technically it's a contest which was how it started and it's formally remained a contest but the contest part is very low key and the description above pretty much sums it up. I see the Seasons as a weekly challenge/on line open mic. It has also become a community that stretches across continents.

It has a very friendly atmosphere, like a bunch of people sitting on a front porch with their instruments, swapping songs. And the whole process of going from choosing a song to learning it to posting a video, all in a matter of days (or sometimes hours), really helps you to improve your musical skills.

It's an awesome place you need to be. I'm hosting in a few weeks so I look forward to hearing an entry from you.

Its whatever you want it to be ..............I mainly use it as a platform to practice different techniques and the deadline gives me a time limit to actually finish a song as I'm not very disciplined in finishing stuff !! Lol

Time and life doesn't allow me to fully integrate into the Seasonista community and I kinda mostly sit on the outside but the guys and gals are great if you wanna immerse yourself !!

Also I think Chrimess had each week originally coincide with something happening, like Grammys Week. He also wanted everyone to initially to donate to some worthy cause to become a candidate for the final prize and although the original was 6 weeks long I think you only had to enter into 4 seasons to be finally judged. I participated in all six and I could see my improvements as I did it.

here were my entries
Week 1:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR1X2R6l2eQ
week 2:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE22ileN5_c
week 3:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne3e-p37F2w
week 4:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXhHSX5b9Ko
week 5:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id1sBFUYjYY
week 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7pxTiUGY-k

its pretty funny looking back to those weeks!

Following that EugeneUkulele kicked off Woody Week!!! Good times!

Now that we've gone 110 consecutive weeks, the Seasons has grown and evolved. It's not only a place to post a video and sit back to see who watches it. The most beloved Seasonistas are individuals who watch other people's videos and comment on them. A key objective of the Seasons is to encourage one another.

An amazing benefit, apart from playing better by practicing to play publicly, is making friends with other ukers you might never encounter otherwise. Read through the Seasonistas Jamming With Seasonistas thread to see some of these actual friendships.
