View Full Version : Bridge hight gauge

I find this useful..But you may prefer other methods;)...Bridge hight depends on a few things, action prefered, Fretboard thickess, neck angle, top radius, Fret size, etc: .. I try and get it as close as I can during construction but it usualy needs some fine adjustment in the end to get it just how I like it....here is a device I use nowadays..it tells me quickly and exactly how high to make a bridge on any soprano uke of the same scale, in this case 6.8mm high ..I made it from Corian worktop material. It consists of a straight edge with a notch cut out at the ideal bridge hight (leaving a small allowance for the saddle hight) and wedge gauge for measuring.

Thanks for the great idea, I need to make one of those!

That's a useful tool. Better than the piece of string I usually squint along!

So Ken, using a straight edge, would the projected height at the bridge be the same height as the fretboard on your ukes, or a bit lower?

Beau...I aim for the straight edge to line up 4mm from the top of the bridge allowing for a 1-2 mm's of saddle to stick up..Thus giving an action at the 12th approx: 2.8-3mm.
I can do a sketch if it helps :)
