I have a Lanikai Tenor Spruce Top that is my least played uke. It has Aquila strings and it just sounds a bit too "bright" and resonating to me. Thinking of selling it to a friend who is interested, but wondered if it would be worth trying a different type of string on it first. I have seen some people praise Worth Brown strings. And maybe a low G tuning would be a good idea. All opinions and thoughts on this are welcome.

I have a Lanikai LQA-TCA tenor cutaway with solid spruce top and quilted ash body. I recently replaced the Aquila strings that came with it, with Worth CT clears, which gave it a warmer sound.

Have you tried a wound lowG (linear) string? Southcoast HML-RW's are the best I've tried. They're a higher tensioned wound 3&4 stringset. Really change the whole sound of all my ukes for the better.

I got a couple of sets of PHD's for my wife's spruce top tenor Lanikai and my Mainland mahogany tenor. They are oh so much easier and enjoyable to play than Aquilas. IMO
