Ok maybe im crazy but for some reason i can not find a definitive answer for this anywhere. Is G#6 tuning just open g tuning?? And is this possible on a normal gcea tuned tenor? Theres a song id like to learn played in this but im not going to get new strings for one song!! Thanks!

G6 is either d' g b e' (reentrant) or d g b e' (linear). Open G can be various tunings but is usually d g b d'.

Of course we always encourage people to get new strings for EVERY song!

But just because your song is written for G tuning doesn't mean you can't play it on your C tuned Tenor. If you're playing solo, just ignore chord names and play shapes - they're the same in both keys. If you're playing with C tuned Ukuleles you can transpose the arrangement.
