I got started playing uke around 2003-04.

I remember going on ebay and getting 500-600 hits on "ukulele". I just went out there and got 21,000 hits.

I remember when the vast majority of ukes for sale online were Oscar Schmidt and Lanikai. No ukes could be had locally.

I remember when the only person who I'd seen or play the uke in the last 40 years was Tiny Tim.

I remember buying solid mahogany vintage Harmony ukes for $50-85, looks like $150-250 is the going price now.

I think the growth and popularity has been phenomenal.

What do some of you long time players remember?

I remember when it was pretty much UU, Dom, Ukehunt, and myself doing the 'ukulele website thing.

I remember when a Kamaka HF-3 was $700 - WITH A PICKUP. Now they are like $1200 or something outrageous...

I remember when Hilo strings were all you could buy at the music store (in Hawai'i).

I remember when Jumpin' Jim's little songbooks were pretty much the only ones you could buy.

Ahh... yes... the Midnight Disco! That's old school.

while i may only be 18....

i remember when i thought the uke was a "toy" and being turned off to it in general

then my friend convinced me to try his and it was love at first strum.:)
