Season 122 of the Ukulele. Tribute.
My Favorite part of the seasons has always been watching all of you play songs for us. I have laughed, I have learned, and I have made a lot of friends here (heck- I have even met some of you!)…never a dull moment around here.
So this week I wanted to challenge you all to pay tribute to another Seasonista. That is our theme here, and I think I have figured out how to make it work…well, you guys did. I just watched it happen for 100+ weeks.
Here’s what I want you to do. Go into your Favorites list on youtube and find that song that another Seasonista played…the one that made you grab you uke and play along. The song that made you think “I have got to learn that!”…and play it for us.
I don’t care what the theme was, or what genre…and I have only a few very simple rules:
1.Your video has to be made this week.
2.Uke front and center (you can multi-track all you want, add instruments, get crazy)
3.Tell us the video is for Season 122
And here is the important part…
4. Your post must include BOTH your video, and a link to the one that inspired you.
5.Don’t post anything until Sunday in Hawaii. Go back to 121 and hurt yourself…
Easy right?
Play as many songs as you possibly can…in fact, shirk any and all obligations and just post videos all week. That would make me smile.
Bonus awarded for capturing some nuance of the original Seasonista’s performance- if I catch it. That will amuse me greatly.
Winners – there will be three. Mel and I will pick them. If Melissa and I drop everything and learn the song you have chosen, you win!!!! Prizes TBA, but they are going to be cool Ukulele oriented swag in tribute to our favorite illustrator Seasonista, Captain Lovehandles!
The Rub- Somewhere around season 20 I told Canoelady (who helped judge my first season) I wanted to play my Ukulele on her dock. I am doing just that, and will be out of town until the 17th. I promise when I get back I will be responding like crazy, but for the first part of the week, I will be absent- crickets…I am relying on everyone else to kick this off in fine style and show your appreciation to all for playing us songs.
All right….GOOOOO!!!!!!

And finally- some playlists!!!!!

I recorded this today as a tribute to Doug, who's playing and arranging blows my mind. I am deeply grateful to him for showing me the possibilities of how a ukulele can be played, for inspiring me greatly and for helping fill me with the love of jazz that has overtaken me.

This is my cover of his cover of Duke Ellington's "Solitude" which he performed in season 116. Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR7SVu06ZVI&list=FLxpvJmwOe89v07WgJAmo42g&index=24) is his stunning and vastly superior version. ]

A great tribute and a great choice as well. I loved Doug's version very much as well. Nice one!

You know I look forward to Doug's fabulous videos every week. But I've never thought 'I'll run off and do that one' because I just don't have those skills. Well done Jon and well done every week Doug!

This one was just so EASY for me to kick off with. I've been playing along with this one ever since Krabbers posted his wonderful version. I just love his arrangement which YOU MUST WATCH HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg03T7rjwho) The fact that he only has 52 views is CRIMINAL in my eyes. Get watching. I insist. And here is me accompanying him. I hope he doesn't mind.

OK. Looks like we're off.
Eugene Ukulele is one of the reasons I started posting videos here on the tube and certainly the reason I participate in the seasons.
Jon's cover of a Steve Earle song Sparkle and Shine (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFs6IL86Xew) was done for season one. I knew nothing about the seasons when I found his song and was just searching for Steve Earle songs I think. Click on the link in this paragraph to see his terrific ukulele version.
Anyway I did a cover straight away inspired by his vid on my guitalele - you can see that one here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko17DeQI7jw).
But when this season came up I knew I wanted to reintroduce you to Jon's terrific video.
Now for this cover I am wearing
a big warm coat
a flannelette shirt
a grey T-shirt
and a beanie - a special hand made wool felt one made in Tasmania and purchased at the Salamanca Markets many years ago
again all in tribute to Jon - I even tried to match the yellowish hue of his vid. Now if only I could match his inimitable style.

The first season I participated in was Doug's crank it to 11, 108. I'm pretty new here, only a couple of months, and I'm still browsing through the thousands of incredible Seasons entries. One of the first Seasons after I joined was Season 115 - "Yeah Baby." All the entries were great, but the we tigers introduced a new song - and a new artist - to me. Thanks, tigers!
Here's the we tigers doing "Busy Line." (https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLeOoTkKV5j7KBC1dnKgQxYbal2yCC1Thq&v=VrLbUQUXJ9M&app=desktop)

I introduced the song to my uke group last week. They loved it, even though the younger folk didn't know what a "nickel in the telephone" was, much less a busy signal!

Here's my version. I double-tracked myself, once on my concert, once on my cigar box, then I added some piano plinking, and, of course, the busy signal. Hope you like it, and thanks again, we tigers!

Ive been wanting to do this song for the Bari Me Please thread. Again last week I was torn between getting it done for...Hmmm...season 121 or the Bari me? Then I saw that Sean had done it so I passed and was going to do it today for the Bari Me but yesterday when I saw this 122 come up I went to my favs and realized that Andrew had done this with a slide and TCK in and earlier season while he was sick. I am inspired by so many of you that if I was a "one take gal" I would probably flood the thread with poorly done imitations of all you great players. So today I chose "Hang Me Oh Hang Me" done by Andrew, TCK and Sean and probably other that I have missed. And if I have please tell me and I will add your link too:) I read that Jon did it but I can't find it...help.

Tribute week. This is gonna be so hard. There are just way too many folks here who have done some amazing videos to chose from. I salute you all!
However, when this season was announced I knew I had to do this song. It's not my best vid by far, but it had to be done.
TCK is not only a very important part of this community, he is a dear friend of mine. We share the same sense of humor and have had many wonderful cyber conversations. I had the great pleasure and honor of meeting him twice. He and his lovely wife, Melissa, hosted me for a night at their house. Dave was there for me when my father in law was dying. As Ron (my wife's dad) was on his death bed, Dave put together a radio show just for him. It brings tears to my eyes thinking of the huge smile he put on Ron's face with those songs. Mel and Dave even sent us some wine to help with the pain. I love this guy. He has a heart as big as they come.
Dave did this song for Season 109. He dedicated it to myself and my girls. Unfortunately, our first take which had the kids rolling with laughter, was destroyed by my computer. Here is take two, in which the kids are clearly trying to soak up all the words. This for you pal. Thanks for your friendship. It means more than you know. Here's Dave's version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL1mVtoowKA):

I like Jazzbanjorex's work. He is a talented muso and has the prettiest voice when he sets his vocal chords to it.
For SOTU 102 he did Worried Man blues - although he did call them the working man blues. A terrific clawhammer tenor banjo uke version. HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngp0UqMJ1LY)
Didn't go into his high vocal register where he really shines but it reminded me that this is a song I wanted to do.

Then of course you've got Todd Baio - this guy is such an inspiration to me. At one time I think I sat and watched ALL of his vids over a couple of days. His version is just fabulous. Great playing and vocals. Even some harmonica HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dindKN-EwVw) Not a seasonista but if you are not aware of his stuff you are missing out.

Then there's this. Rough pa one taker on the 8 string Oscar Schmidt.

I'm in G if you want to play along.
Often done by Pete Seeger too.

<TCK rule>

True story~
After my mother died in 2011 I found myself needing a way to connect with her so I decided I would start playing the guitar. I started listening to a lot of folk music on youtube. I also realized the ukulele wasn't just an island instrument and that a lot of people were playing it in all kinds of styles. Folk + Ukulele = Todd B.

Its funny that Pa would give recognition to Todd B. because I was planning to do the same. I found Todds work and became completely taken by his style because it was the closes to my mother's style that Ive come across. I spent days and days studying him. Found out he lives in Az very close to where I live. Someday I hope to get the guts to take a lesson from him. (Believe it or not I am a very socially shy person). Everything I've learned on the uke I credit to the youtube folks. If you can stay on task and learn to not get distracted by ALL the info:)

I started looking into ukes and after much reading, the advice was to start with a cheapy and see if you will like the instrument. I decided to get a decent instrument because I could tell from Todd and Pa's work that I would love this little guy and be able to play the music of my mother and youth on it. I ordered a Pono AT and had it set up with low action/low D and fell in love with it. I have sense sold that instrument to my sister Laurie who also fell in love with it because it is such a comfortable instrument to play and you can practice for hours on it. I often hunt for another one but they have been out of stock for at least a year now. I am hoping to get another someday:)

Anyway through Todds work I came across Pabrizzer doing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i82fzdtnUxk) a Todd original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztShbGh4Oeo) and thought wow this guy is great too. I started watching Pa and noticed that his videos started with "Seasons of the Ukulele" in the titles! I thought what is "Seasons" so I googled that and came across you folks. I lurked for a short while and decided to give it a go. This is the kindest community of great supportive encouraging people. I needed the motivation to keep learning and practicing and knew that if I joined it would keep me doing just that!

I love that Pabrizzer throws himself into character in every video. I love that he dresses the part and sings like butter. I love his playing style!

I hope he forgives me for not getting his ok to do this but as the saying goes... its easier to ask for forgiveness later!;)

Holy cow Linda...that was amazing (as was Pa's "original" cover). I wish I could harmonize at all, let alone like that. Maybe this is the week to learn how. LOL

Anyway, after seeing that I know what I have to do...just have to contact Bernie and ask permission to do one of his originals. I was reviewing vids really wanting to throw my vote to somebody that hasn't gotten the recognition that some of the "older" seasonistas have but I have to confess that my very first thought when I read Dave's introduction to this weeks theme was, "got to look up that song by Bernie and do it." A year or more ago he did an original that flat blew my shoes off... More info coming when I've actually managed to do it. LOL

Thank you John. Pa is amazing and I had to give him kudos for getting me here. There is so much talent here and definitely Berni deserves recognition for his originals. He is bubbling with talent!

Wow, Jon, you totally made my day, thanks so much. And I love your version of this great song.

This was GREAT! Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful cover by WeTigers. Loved your piano accompaniment! Well done.

I just sang Hallelujah but shortened it because I didn't want to torture anyone longer than I had too:) The second part with my son was mostly for my family. He came over to use my computer and was sick of hearing Hallelujah by the time he sat down to goof around with me.

First of all great them TCK.

Without a doubt my greatest ukulele influence has been eugeneukulele. Impeccable taste. He always digs up gems from the past to record. And I love his style incorporating percussive strumming with finger picking and knocks. And of course intros, outros, and middletros. Each performance is a true work of art. How he is capable of pumping out two or more of these songs a week is totally beyond me. But it has provided a large body of work for us to learn from. On top of all that he delivers the songs in style with checkered shirts, fat ties, beanies or paper boys hats, and the cheer and smile unique to that slice of the southern hemisphere. Truly one of a kind. Here is my humble jaunt through one of his recently recorded masterpieces. eugene's version can be found HERE (http://youtu.be/EiZxWuEuDyQ).

Note- Someone, I think it was GinnyT11, has requested another appearance of our papillon. She is back in this vid. She hates knocks on the front door. Check out how she responds to knocks on the ukulele.

Folks, I've got my hands full now that the kids are out of school for the summer, as you can see. Given the theme this week, I'm not going to do multiple takes to get just the right one. There are just too damn many great songs and seasonistas to pay tribute to. And frankly, I don't think TCK would have it any other way, at least with this vid. I could do an entire week of tributes to this one guy. And then a week of tributes to another, and so on.....
Dave has turned me onto so many songs that I have a playlist in iTunes called "Songs TCK Turned Me On To". It's loaded with tons of fantastic songs. Here's one of them. I love this song and hope someday Dave and I can sing it together.

See it HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojO1gPCsYkw)
Look - I love this place.
I enjoy the challenge of the weekly theme and having a reason to work up some songs.
I also love to see what other people will do for the season and how they will treat the songs they choose.
So it's the community of this forum I love too.
So I'm so glad that song and this theme came at the same time.
So this is a tribute to ALL seasonistas
with a special shout out to 23skidoo.

This is such an important and unpleasant song Rob. And so right to be sung with venom and clenched teeth.
I think you got it right.
It was done in a season when the theme was songs about actual / factual historical events.
It happened - and we need to ensure that we have indeed learnt.

[TCK rule] I have two main musical friends who've made a difference in my life. One of whom I see in person on a weekly basis, the other I've never met. He's a Seasonista we all know and love, and today's his birthday. A few seasons ago, he recorded this song - possibly as a between Seasons video, neither of us are quite sure. So, as his Road Songs week was my first Season, I felt I should play this today. Happy Birthday, Mr. Thornton![/TCK rule]

Our tribute is to Erivel. Eric manages to create the most tremendous ukulele covers of songs from the eighties. Not the ordinary hit songs, but unexpected choices that you didn't think would translate to the ukulele.
I love the way he breaks those songs down to the essence and records a stunning and heartfelt version.
One of my favorite videos he did was a song he played on guitar and thus never had a spot in the Seasons, but boy it's good. But we couldn't do that song. We'd be crying our eyes out. I'm ruined already by just listening to it.
http://youtu.be/YG7T6OVciTc

Another excellent Erivel video is his version of Bring on the Dancing Horses. http://youtu.be/_XpPgCzab8k
But there are more. If you're not an Erivel follower, check out some more of his videos.

Instead of doing a song he did, we deployed his MO: making a ukulele cover of an eighties song we really love. So here's Grass by XTC, from their brilliant Skylarking album.

I'm actually a little jealous (though I have gotten a few thumbs down). Rex, if anything's going to get me a nasty comment, it's probably what I've done to Kiss in my video. I was inspired by Erivel's version back in season 88(found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_u_ygvx0kQ--he perfectly captured the disco feel of the original, way too perfectly for me to bother duplicating. He also made me think about whether it could be turned into a completely different sort of song. I was sitting in the car playing around with chords in a slow-blues fashion, and I came up with this:

I'm using this contest as an opportunity to rummage through all the Seasons, and let me tell you, I am humbled and excited by the talent and enthusiasm on this forum.

Here's the weird part: Although many entries caught my attention, I was really drawn to one from Season 31 by, of all people, we tigers! My first song in this Season was one of theirs! They're gonna think I'm stalking them - which, considering their talent, I think would be understandable! Ahhhh...yes, flying the friendly skies. Brings a tear to me eye when I remember with great fondness the days gone buy when I practically lived on airplanes traveling for business...NOT!

That's what I love about my present job - we're in the aviation industry but I've had to travel precisely four times in sixteen years...and two of those were road trips instead of flights. :)

Flying was actually better back then, though, before they deregulated and the airlines decided they could schedule 50 flights to depart between 5:00 and 5:05PM... and then started inspecting your underwear under a microscope after 9/11... and.... Honestly, the thought of having to go through that nonsense when not absolutely necessary is probably enough to keep me from ever getting to see Hawaii again!

Honestly, I would rather drive all day then fly for four hours.

Oh...and the cigarette thing...I smoked back in the mid-nineties when I had to go to Malaysia on business. San Fran to Hong Kong was like 10 hours - hop into the terminal to hotbox three or four smokes and then back on the plane for another several hours. Coming back was even worse what with flight delays and such it turned into a 24 hour flight with a 30-minute layer over at 2AM (duty free shops closed :( ) in Seoul.

One of the great things about the seasons is that everyone has something unique to bring, and there are so many that I would like to do a tribute to, I feel I learn things from just about everyone. But there is one seasonista that I just have a real soft spot for, and that’s Cha. Maybe it’s because my dad taught me to play uke when I was about her age, just as Pa is teaching her, or maybe it’s just seeing how much fun she’s having, or maybe just seeing young talent bud. Anyway, I think it’s great that she’s part of our seasonista family, so here’s my take on the song she did for my season 108. Definitely check out her delightful version here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVfXfdNYOjw).

Oh and you Douged it up so smooth and stylishly!
Charlie will be so chuffed Doug.

And there are more young ones appearing now too. Young Sam did a fab version of It Hurts Me Too with his dad last season. And PeeWee's daughter on violyn and I've seen WGY's grand daughter sing at some stage and Sean's girls singing.
And I reckon DWitts little one and Dirtiestkidever's little one will be talents after being in those pouches when the uking was going on! And Shea and her staples and I'm pretty sure we saw Linda's grandkids at some stage. The lady from Brazil? shared a great family vid with us. Bernie's daughter playing classical music for us. 29 moons' daughter has done some cameo appearances. Sorry if I've missed someone out but I do love seeing music being shared.
This is a very special place!
Oh. forgot the weeTigers - there was a beaut video posted recently with Ginny and the whole WeTigers clan.

Dr Bekken is not only one of my favourite sometime-seasonistas, his musical influence on me as a ukulele player has been deep and wide, so much so I find I have even adopted some of his mannersisms when I play now. He is a consummate professional jazz and blues pianist and to think he has played songs for us on this board is a wonderful thing. Get this, the uke is only a part time instrument for him. He has a voice like warm honey and all the chops and cheekiness to go with it. He feels the music he plays, gets inside it, and I offer this as the highest of praise. Like TCK, the doc has introduced me to a whole vista of music I had hitherto ignored or been unaware of and has been a lovely friend to me for a few years now.

He recorded this Cliff Edwards song a couple of years back on a baritone ukulele. Sadly, as I went back to link it for you, I found he has deleted it. Perhaps you might like to listen to this song instead. It is worth your time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2fXQ30DJGw

I decided to play "I Feel Pessimistic" on a soprano uke for a different sound and feel. Thanks doc, thanks Ike, and thankyou friends for listening.

Thanks, Jon! I am honored. I could probably be a more active seasonista, but I always watch from a distance and like the different themes a lot....and sometimes, I might jump right in...peace&love, docB.

I had never heard this song until Ralf posted it as a bonus for Season 28 (BTW Daniel it never made the bonus playlist!) I liked his version so much that I never bothered seeking out the original and just listened to his over and over. Sweetly played, check out the fingerpicking: http://youtu.be/OJCVAxE9ptg

But then I started hearing the original on the radio…totally catchy and forever stuck in my head! Fun song. And that's the feeling I get whenever I watch Ralf's videos…I always have a good time watching them! He and I have a similar taste in music and I look forward to his entries each week.

Thanks Ralf you da man! This one's for you…TheOnlyUkeThatMatters! :)

Wow, what a beautiful song! I love this so much and I am truly honored! Thank you!!! :)

This week's theme shoots off in a few directions. When I first read Dave's intro, I immediately remembered last week, when I heard Markwo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dU3JC0doW8U) do this song. I instantly thought of doing it myself, since Mark completely convinced me that the song was made for ukulele. (I didn't, since I thought it might be a bit presumptuous, but here we are!)

The quality of "Hey, that's a uke song too" was something that initially, and continually, keeps me loving the Seasons. When I started playing uke, it wasn't to do recreations of Hawaiian songs (although I love Hawaii) - it was to explore musical territory that I loved with a new instrument. When I got here, I realized I was not alone - so thanks to EVERY Seasonista, all of whom inspire me every week!

Like others, there have literally been countless times this has happened to me during my Seasons participation. So here's my first entry this week. A couple more coming up, but these focus on the musical abilities and taste of other Seasonistas who constantly inspire me.

Here is my tribute to Decaturcomp AKA Alan. This guy puts so much heart into his performances that you can't help but love the guy. He is a solid player, a great performer and all around nice guy. Ever since I became a seasonista he has been encouraging and supportive and an example of what our little community here is - a mutual admiration society. When I saw his performance of I'm Your Moon I was blown away. I think i watched it 20 times that day. It damn near brought me to tears. If you haven't seen it yet, you don't know what u are missing. Here it is:

Here is my tribute attempt. I only did one take because I don't think I have another one in me. Thanks for the inspiration Alan!

Dude - I loved your version! It was psychedelic. I'm glad mine inspired it - and for the record I wouldn't mind anyone doing the same song as me during a season. Part of the fun is seeing someone else's take on a song! (We also both did Satellite of Love during space week. I guess we have similar tastes!)

Hope you like it, and thanks again, we tigers!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4VhYadWFnk&feature=youtu.be
That is pretty awesome! Like the addition of the plunky piano. I feel honored! Thanks, mate!

This is my first "second entry" ever! Geez, this Seasonista stuff is becoming addicting!

Here's the entry from Season 31 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2ysFsq2LK4&index=33&list=PLbIBa-QYEmc6Kj2CEHtidQ3MXEMacuJsq).

"Sweet Lorraine" is one of my favorite songs. Hope you like my version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rRUfCjpkCM&feature=youtu.be
Cool! Wow.. a stalker! hahaha! Like your version. I must say that I've played that instrumental arrangement so many times that I had forgotten the vocal version and how it sounded. Season 31 was way back when I first entered the Seasons. I think we started in 29 or 30. I remember studying hard on Sweet Lorraine; It took me ages. How things have changed. Thanks for the tribute and thanks for bringing back those memories!

As I'm off to the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain on Friday for the weekend I'm not going to get a chance to do all of the songs I wanted to do to pay tribute to so many Seasonistas that I have unbeknown to them, jammed along to with their wonderful arrangements. Instead I'm going to pay tribute by putting links here to just some of the Uke performances that have inspired me to attempt to play.
Each and every one of these listed below (and others to many to mention) inspired me to pick up my Uke and try to improve my own playing and have given me so many wonderful hours of pleasure. Thank you one and all.

UNPLUGTHEWOOD - Now one of my favourites tunes to play. HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzdo6EYVi_M)
THEONLYUKETHATMATTERS (And wife) Just a two chord song (Fm and C) and yet so beautiful done - HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAWAvWV1leY).
PAXUKULELE One of my first inspirations HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTjnH-ghg8M).
WOLFCHS - A beautiful entry during my "Lets Get Emotional" week HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ-GncwoESk)
BERNI ARMSTRONG - Unusually this is him doing a COVER that I thought was marvellous and just blew me away HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQvhNbH-JCA)
LINDA LOUDEN - This is just lovely HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_V6wtkC7OQ)
EUGENE UKULELE - A beautifully moving instrumental version of The Water is Wide HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5EKO8wR52A)

Right Gang...you finally have a host. Back from the time of my life in Wisconsin, I first want to thank you all for taking such good care of each-other in my absence. This theme was so special to me I had to do it this week. Thanks for being understanding.
Coupla things I had not counted on.
First, this is kind of an emotional roller-coaster. My goodness I love you people. How did we collect so much awesome in one place?
Second- commenting on the videos and the originals...well, we are going to be here a while. In any event, I have gotten the first round watched and I am FLOORED. I can say collectively that you are turning in your best, all of you, this week. So much heart and soul...GIANT smiles from Cloverdale,

I recorded this today as a tribute to Doug, who's playing and arranging blows my mind. I am deeply grateful to him for showing me the possibilities of how a ukulele can be played, for inspiring me greatly and for helping fill me with the love of jazz that has overtaken me.

Love this. Doug is about the nicest guy in the world, and has a smile that warms about any room. You not only got his phrasing (well, close- no one gets exactly what Doug gets), but there are the shoulders as well. Well done Jon-O, what a beautiful piece of music. As for Doug being an inspiration...that is a no-brainer. The guy is legend.

This one was just so EASY for me to kick off with. I've been playing along with this one ever since Krabbers posted his wonderful version.
My hat has been off to Mister Krabbers since the first note I heard. I LOVE that you played with him...and you must know how much I love this song. Bless up Rude Boy- real nice stuff here Dave

OK. Looks like we're off.
Eugene Ukulele is one of the reasons I started posting videos here on the tube and certainly the reason I participate in the seasons.

Hahaha! I know for a fact that when Jon is wearing all that stuff it is about 50 degrees in Tazmania, but you NAILED it Pa. Well, that and you did a beautiful job on this one mate. Great pattern and playing we have come to expect, lilting vocal that just lifts the spirit- excellent.
I am sure Jon is an inspiration to all of us- his first video inspired me to make my first...more to follow on that.

Pabrizzer wrote and uploaded this song within days of Pete Seeger's death. Powerful sentiment that spoke to me when I heard it. Amazed that someone could write such a good piece so quickly. I'm privileged to do it, mate.

Fred- this is fantastic. I love that you wore the glasses here, but really, this is a beautiful song Pa gave us...and you nailed it. I think this is my favorite thing I have seen come from your camp, and you have done some doozies for us.
As for Pa- the fellow is a POWERHOUSE. Turns everything into gold. I missed this first time around...glad I got to see this.

Well my face is still a bit swollen but I thought I'd get in early Doors. (wait for it...)

The first season I participated in was Doug's crank it to 11, 108. TheSillyDave posted a bonkers version of People are Strange which was full of the energy and fun that drew me to the uke in the first place, and every video I've seen him post has always had that same energy and fun, so here's me trying tocapture it:

And capture it you did! To be inspired by Silly Dave goes without saying. Love the nod to his vocal inflection here. Very nicely done mate. We have all loved Silly Dave since way back, and he always brings a smile.

<TCK RULE EMPLOYED>

I recorded this Blue Oyster Cult song tonight in honour of my best friend I've never met, Dave Laurice. You see, he recorded this a couple of years back for season 41 of the ukulele. Though it went by virtually un-noticed it hit me right between the eyes.
I am not worthy of tribute in any way...especially from someone so dear to me. You have inspired us all my friend. Always know that, and thank you for this. The silent prayer at the end…that was tears. Love you man...enormous warts and all. One day we will certainly make them sawdust over a few coldies- I am not letting that go.

Berni Armstrong wrote this one and I did a version as soon as I heard it. Gimme Just a Little More Time.

If you could bottle this up and sell it, I am buying Pa- great job here and my goodness do I love to see a tribute to our songwriter. This is Fantastic. Capital F...
Berni is such a treasure. Man I love that guy.

See, this is turning into a big bro-mance (course we have room for the ladies). hope y'all did not expect anything else. Off to watch more. LOVING THIS. Thanks Gang.

Still moving on...and surprised by more greatness. What a week we are having gang.

When I saw Brian's version of this I really liked that and it reminded me a lot of the original. I wanted to also record it then, but I did not, so this is the perfect opportunity for that (thank Dave). So here is my take on this classic. The Church - Under the Milkyway.

My goodness...I do love this song. Very nice job here Wim. Well played, well sang- perfect mellow delivery.

This was done by Daniel (DanUke) for season 80 as a really great instrumental. As I can get nowhere near his skilled playing, I give you this version of Psalms 42:1 As the Deer.

This is beautiful Wim, really Beautiful. Man do I miss Dan. Great job here mate

Alan…yes, break the rules every time. I want you to. I do love this song. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL my friend. Please put it on our list my friend. This makes me smile so hard it hurts. Cheers

Here is my tribute to Krabbers who is definitely one of my ukulele heroes. When I 1st saw his video for this I thought it was just a brilliant original and it drew me in and inspired me to learn it and play it. This season gave me another opportunity to do just that!

Nothing better than Krabbers. You knocked this one right out of the park...know how much I love this tune. Nicely done. That break-down in the middle, how do they say in England? The dogs bollocks.

Season 119th season I heard this song and had to learn it.

THX DWitt

I'm my video I said that it was last week (which would have been season 121) but it was actually 3 weeks ago (season 119). I forgot.

Lounge Lizards- always a great choice, and well...Lord knows I love some BanjoRex. Nice stuff here my friend. Love the change in inflection- laughing from the gut here in the 'Dale.

I'm pretty new here, only a couple of months, and I'm still browsing through the thousands of incredible Seasons entries. One of the first Seasons after I joined was Season 115 - "Yeah Baby." Here's an homage to a Seasonista who did this song in Season 107.
I'm inspired by her flat-out love for the uke and for performing, albeit facelessly.

.
OH MY GOD...This is perfect!!!! BEV is about the easiest of us to emulate, but she kills it so often, and here we have Ginny doing precisely the same. Perfect all around. Great song remarkably executed as well. Love this

Sigh...wish we all lived in the same place. This is becoming a bit of a Seasons anthem and I really wish I could play it with you. In fact- I am.

Here's
Happy Fathers Day Daddy-O...this made me smile till it hurt! We are gonna be friends forever, which means you are stuck with me mate. I knew you would do this song ;) Huge Gorilla fart coming your way! I love this video more than you know.

Okay, Dammit>>>
At the risk of becoming too meta.

And here's what happened the first time I ever heard another guy named Dave.

Well...
He SAID to play along.
Love you my friend.

Okay, the joke's on me. Dave never puts the titles of songs on any of his 5.76 million songs so I have no friggin' idea which post I loved when he sang this song. Maybe he has the secret code book he stole from Moose and Squirrel that tells him where the damn thing is. Anyway....I'm in D:

My god...I love you my friend. My father in law passed away, and this was the song I played for him. It was all I had. I was 140 miles away while my wife led her dad to the light, I felt so helpless...I knew you would get it. We'll live forever, you and I. Here (http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht-dQsu_UfY) is the original.

I like Jazzbanjorex's work. He is a talented muso and has the prettiest voice when he sets his vocal chords to it.
For SOTU 102 he did Worried Man blues - although he did call them the working man blues. A terrific clawhammer tenor banjo uke version.
Didn't go into his high vocal register where he really shines but it reminded me that this is a song I wanted to do.

I'm in G if you want to play along.
Often done by Pete Seeger too.
Oh damn...where is my Uke? Time to play this thing into sawdust...GREAT stuff here Pa. Mouth agape watching you hammer that eight string. Loving this. I'm in G as well.

<TCK rule>

Anyway through Todds work I came across Pa and thought wow this guy is great too.

I have loved this song the day I was born...I am not sure we would be fast friends (I am a little rough around the edges), but I would give my eye teeth to sing this with you. I am fairly certain this is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Thanks for this one.
I am sad to say Pa’s link is not working, but I remember it well.
Great story...amazing video. We all love us some Pa.

I guess we have chosen one of these songs that almost any Seasonista did or should perform.

Lord knows I love me some some Ukelites...this is over the top. Such a great set here guys. So well done

Tribute to Eisley the Rabbit Presents-I'm sick of Hallelujah. I thought his parody was so funny when I saw it. I just sang Hallelujah but shortened it because I didn't want to torture anyone longer than I had too:) The second part with my son was mostly for my family. He came over to use my computer and was sick of hearing Hallelujah by the time he sat down to goof around with me.
I am loving this- what a great parody...I can't even believe I bother to play to with you folks. Shane is welcome here any time

Yes- Jon is a treasure, he has influenced many of us. However, this is a fantastic piece of work here on it's own. Great stuff mate. Where is the original?

Prolific, bearded, chatty, and awesome. Alan is another one of my favorite seasonistas. He has his own unique style that he adds to all of his songs. And he too has impeccable taste in music. As such, many of his seasons entries have found there way into my repertoire. You all know him so without further adieu...

Nice take at this one...one of my favorite songs, and well, I hope everyne has noticed I am Alan's adopted son. Again- where is the original?

Sentimental Lover
Oh yeah, I'm in C

Holy crap!!!! You did the river song. I love this so much it hurts. Give the girls a gigantic hug from me would ya?

I saw this and planned to get 'er done one day. Well that day was today.
WOW- this is a tough one here mate, I suppose I should not be surprised you tackled it...Solid gold right here Mister Rex.
Mister beer belly approves.

Tribute to the Doc...well yeah, I am in. This is GOLD. Well done Mister Bandito- I will play like that some day.

A 2am entry in my favorite grey shirt that photographs so well;)

Every time I see this song done I want to record it. There have been so many of you that have done this one that the list goes on and on.

Such a beautiful song...made all the better by your execution Linda. Brilliant.

Ready or not PaBrizzer here I come with Strange Fruit
Such a great shot at this song, as to be expected. Thank you mister Wee for playing along. Delivered perfectly.
Again…where is the original?

There's been a little song involving 55 seasonistas posted recently you may not be aware of.

I am interested to know how much time you spent on that terrific video Bill.
It was wonderful and a great idea Ginny.
So here is a tribute to EVERY seasonista from Cha and Pa.
It's a rough one afternoon effort but we mean it!

What a special thing you have created here. Bless up Pa and Cha...this brought a smile like you will ever know.

I make my return to the Seasons with my version:

Welcome back Miss Casey, and another tribute to Berni...man the guy is a treasure ain't he? Great stuff here my friend.

Such a great old song- well done Casey. You know, we did this one as well (not a spot on Alan's version)? Happy Birthday Pops!!!!

Instead of doing a song he did, we deployed his MO: making a ukulele cover of an eighties song we really love. So here's Grass by XTC, from their brilliant Skylarking album.

How could I not count this you rule benders? Absolutely AMAZING stuff guys...and Eric would smile as well.

I'm actually a little jealous (though I have gotten a few thumbs down). Rex, if anything's going to get me a nasty comment, it's probably what I've done to Kiss in my video. I was inspired by Erivel's version back in season 88--he perfectly captured the disco feel of the original, way too perfectly for me to bother duplicating. He also made me think about whether it could be turned into a completely different sort of song. I was sitting in the car playing around with chords in a slow-blues fashion, and I came up with this:

We love car videos like no other...and another tribute to Eric, and KISS. How could this not be top-shelf? Way to drop the trifecta on us- I was made for loving this.

This is my first "second entry" ever! Geez, this Seasonista stuff is becoming addicting!

"Sweet Lorraine" is one of my favorite songs. Hope you like my version.

A double header from the new guy...this is about as good as it gets! Very well done Randy- thanks for joining us. Fantastic delivery on this fine old tune.

How could you not have a soft spot for our little Cha? This is a really great tribute Doug...just perfect.

Dave did this and I said "I'm gonna learn that"

Then Linda did and it so I said "Okay, Okay I'll learn the song"

Then this season came along and....

I'd like to thank my Solid Black and White Dancer.
I love this so much...great stuff here Rex, and the pun on the Solid Gold Dancers- well, you dun went and dated yourself right there. Such a great song. So well done...and I am so glad the jerk has not seen my room (jeez)

I had never heard this song until Ralf posted it as a bonus for Season 28 (BTW Daniel it never made the bonus playlist!) I liked his version so much that I never bothered seeking out the original and just listened to his over and over.

I know this is a family forum, but HOLY SHIT! We got Eric and Ralf in the same post folks...
I will admit, there have been some seasons where I call in some old friends and beg them to find the time. This time I did not have to do that and that makes me smile.
Eric- I swear, I am your biggest fan. We gotta play together this summer.
This blows my mind.

This week's theme shoots off in a few directions. When I first read Dave's intro, I immediately remembered last week, when I heard Markwo do this song.

Man I love this song! Great job right here… I was seconds from playing it last week.
But alas, WHERE IS THE ORIGINAL?

Only took me 2 hours to catch up on the Season (; Now after viewing all this inspiration and Seasonista love I've got to go find some more. There has been so much inspiration from so many Seasonistas I don't know how I'm going to choose! <tck> So. Indulge me.This is why we are here really.
Many years ago, my friend Diane posted a video. Y'all might remember her from the early days....Canoe Lady.
In any event, while you guys were throwing everything you got at a new season, I was at her house because I told her when she posted this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZP9rDxTBkI), I would play from her dock one day. I did just that.
When we got there I told her what the season was, and she said she really liked this fellow from England. My goodness I cannot find the original video, but she said he played in an attic...
Good news for me, as I am only here because of UkuleleDaveey. In the early days (before things like work made it impossible) Daveey commented on every video...and he always had something nice to say. Daveey has been an inspiration from the first video I ever played on here, and will continue to be so.
That and UkuleleDaddy told me post the bloopers. I got no way to edit this one...so here they are.
Diane- thanks for sharing your home with vagabond Ukers...Daveey-thanks for always inspiring. I cannot find the original, So maybe you could lead me to your version of "In The Pines?" This is ours mate.
In the Pines. UkuleleDaveey stylee. God dang I love that guy.
Apologies for the wind noise. </tck>

I'll Never forget the first post I saw from Filipinouker. She was so great that i went straight to her youtube channel and watched most of her entries. She has been a seasonista beginning with season 29 I think? She is as cute as a button, charming, talented and has a big heart. You may remember months back in Nov of 2013 she was selling her beautiful Ohana CK-42R to help out her family in the Philippines after the typhoon. This is what she said in her selling post.

"I cannot describe to you how tearful I am to do this because I LOVE THIS UKE. It is my best uke - I have used it for fingerpicking and classical pieces.

BUT my "pain" (if I can call it that!) is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to what millions in my country are going through. I am in the UK - this is what I can do at the moment...."
I know that she was offered money to keep her beautiful Ohana and refused that offer. She is a remarkable person and a very big talent here in the seasons.

One of the first songs I listened to of hers was her first bonus for season 39. It was such a beautiful soulful delivery. Every song she sings if remarkable. She has a gift! Here is her Summertime (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S614FnWTRTM) by George Gershwin and Heyward DuBose. You must listen to her songs if you are unfamiliar with her work. She has recently started playing the Dulcimer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrfoJ3dljX8) and is always humble about her posts.

okie dokie, what an amazing season this is!

here is a song originally done by  ginny, who you all know i love with a passion...

"i can see clearly now" by johnny nash

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkZZP3yZcT8

here is ginny's version which she did for yacht rock week, season 113

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PayywnsfZgc

it's a typically lovely and upbeat song from ginny, and therefore not one that it would ever have occurred to miserable old me to do without her inspiration, not least because motorhead didn't write it

i'm using open c tuning - i think? gceg - i have no idea really but i have pain in my left hand ring finger :( and just this week it's started to be painful to fret chord shapes with it, so i went looking for a way to be able to busk this with easy bar chords... the irony of the line "the pain is gone" is not lost on me, when the pain IS gone, i will have a big old regular tuning uke party but in the meantime this is as good as anything is gonna get!

ginny your original inspiration vid is unlisted, so i didn't put a link in my youtube description, but if you wanna make your vid public and have me put the link in, please let me know, i would love to do that, your version is sooooooooooooooooooooo great

I started the Seasons in week 87, and coincidentally TCK was hosting that week, and, of course, he was very encouraging to an extremely nervous newcomer.
A couple of weeks later, week 89, the Zombie Body parts week, I first saw Eugene Ukulele. From what I could gather he had been missing for a few weeks, and he came back to the seasons with this song. I thought it was just fantastic then, and I still think so now when every so often I re-visit it. Oh man oh man...I do LOVE Eddie Cantor, almost as much as I love the idea of you and John doing this song together. Dave, you nailed this one- such a great song in such capable hands.

We are, by the way, celebrating "Juneteenth" today. It is the date emancipation finally took effect in the last place, Texas, over 2 years after the presidential declaration. It might get mentioned on a national news TV broadcast; it might not.
We Americans seem to like doing frightening & bloodthirsty things (as do many humans), so the reel changes, but the horror movie continues, even as we think we are making progress.

I am pretty certain that anyone here who was around during season 47 remembers this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHLjy2Ms0QY&index=62&list=FL1xday0NyeuItGfSKVnR8-w).
We were all carrying on and singing silly songs about what we do for work...and I had a feeling Kurt was going to drop a big one on us (I knew he had been at the towers). He did.
Kurt is a great guy I have had the fortune to hang out with quite a lot in spite of us living on separate coasts. He is humble, friendly, a great Uker...
a Hero.
a Fireman, and as this was not enough, one of the ones that was there when the towers went down.
I had never wished I was in the room with someone more, playing along, than I did when he made that video.
Here is my feeble attempt- took me about a million tries to get it without tearing up, wishing this was not a part of our collective consciousness.
Thanks Kurt.

Well, Dave, here you go..... it was really hard to decide who and what to play for this Season.... so many folks here bring the real stuff each and every week. It's been almost a year (!) since I've posted a Seasons video, but I still see a lot of what comes down the YouTube line.....

I settled on Raygf's version of Moonglow from Season 46 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c9JqBYdfvc&index=11&list=PLFE07AA5085E31B62). When I saw this, I thought - "holy crap! I can play those chords!' It made one of my favorite tunes very accessible. I love the simplicity of the arrangement and the tremendous vocals..... I usually reserve my attempts to sing this sort of thing for the shower, but thought I'd give it a shot....

I have been in awe of The Ukelites since their first song posts. I've loved their cool style and their hot productions for ages. Then I MET them and PLAYED with them last month and found out that they're not only a riot to be with, but kind and encouraging as well.
So, though this is a feeble imitation, it's is a heartfelt hats-off to two very cool Seasonistas! What an inspiration they are!

Here's their original, back in Season 18: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC2yDo4Pf58

Oh man oh man this is spectacular! Really, you could have played anything and I would have smiled...the rest is gravy. A fantastic version of a GREAT song, played in tribute to Ray (who just brings it doesn't he?). Everything about this is awesome Skidoo.

Season 18- where were you two? I had 17 entries...we needed you guys then as well :)

Oh the banter that takes place sometimes.
I really enjoy the banter that goes on with some of the friends I have made here, and often that banter is with Alan about one of our favorite things, music. If left to my devices and given the opportunity, I would probably just play every song he has ever done (I could never keep up with him), but as luck would have it, he just told me which one he wanted to hear me play.
This one. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5-vdPD6mQg)
Made it easy on me to tip my hat and offer respect to the guy who is there for all of us, and has so many songs in him he had to create his own time-out page.
Alan- you are a treasure my friend.
Took a few liberties with the song (ie. one hour Cloverdal-izing), hope you like it mate.

Thanks Ray! I think I felt the need to complicate your beautifully simple arrangement and add a break out of crooner-insecurity.... your elegant setting highlights your vocals so nicely, but I had to hide behind notes.... which made it harder to sing, ironically.... I drop a few clams in there, especially near the end.....

You can stop right now Bill. Straight up, your heartfelt performance is so good and the parts you added elevate the piece and I'm stealing them. You have no reason to hide behind anything. I often find it harder to sing after pressing record. I can always go back and find a few places in my videos that I want to improve on. And so it goes . . .

Ginny - I haven't had the opportunity or good fortune to meet the Ukelites, but, like you, I feel nothing but awe for their talent, taste and production values. If I don't get to doing one of their numbers this week, it's because I have run out of time or courage, but they are the greatest!

I've always enjoyed the Ukelites videos and admired the quality of their productions. In season 42, they did "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer (http://youtu.be/RIqUUm9Z7Ek)" or, in English, "The Ballad of Mack the Knife" so I've chosen to do this for this season. I've not used the most common translation, that of Marc Blitzstein but created my own version which I think is closer to the original than Blitzstein's. I did find another, more recent one by Ralph Manheim and John Willett which is closer to the original but I thought the English stilted so using that and a literal translation from Google translate, I've tried to create something that flows better.

The Ukelites added a baritone sax to the ukulele which I thought was brilliant. I've used electric uke through an effects box and added U-bass and some percussion from an African drum my parents brought me back from a holiday in Mombassa many years ago. It's a bit of tourist tat really but makes a nice noise. Not too prominent as my timing was a bit off in places and I hadn't time for more than one take on each part.

Tribute week – Part II

There are lots of ways I have been inspired by other Seasonistas and their performances. The last entry I posted was a song done by Markwo that moved me to pick up my uke and play it immediately – his treatment made me realize it was a perfect song for the uke.

There are also Seasonistas – a lot of them – who take a song which may or may not seem like a uke song and not only do it great, but make it their own, with their own unique and wonderful arrangements and performances. It’s not all just those enormously skilled players and singers among us, it’s the folks with brilliant musical imaginations. They are real artists.
These are the people who I always watch, just to see what they are going to do. I thought of a couple of them, and, as I went through their entries over the Seasons, found that two of them had done the same song. And they both did it great. So I had to try that one too.

The song is Here Comes Your Man by the Pixies. The first revered Seasonista(s) are we tigers. God I love these folks. They completely won me over with their version of Bowie’s Sound and Vision. They took that to another place – a place I don’t know if I could get to, so I did this one instead. Here is their version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=f7sDXMrz4Sw).

The second Seasonista is Erivel. Boy, this guy can play and sing, and he makes everything special. His version of the song is here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ipxRJW6OuQw).

And here is another great thing about this group. Wouldn’t you know it, but we tigers did a tribute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=x0DVEAz0xSc) to Erivel this week. Let the love flow!

Woohoo! Welcome, Mark from Wisconsin! Congratulations on your first (hopefully first of many) Seasons video. I'm honored that you let me convince you - in what has to be one of the hardest possible Season themes for a newcomer to participate in. (I feel a bit like you just did a tribute to me. :))

I love your "Paper Moon", and the little hand flourish at the end ... it's a lovely tribute to the wonderful Matty Dee, who has inspired so many of us here. This is one of my favorite songs ... I spent months learning it in my early uking days, and never video'd it.

For everyone else out there, if you weren't at the Ukulele World Congress in Needmore, Indiana a week or so ago, you don't know that this man wrote what seems destined to become the UWC anthem .... "We Need More Needmore" (http://youtu.be/2wjRcw_na20) ... which is a sort of a tribute song itself. So he's a bit of a rising star in that other uke-y world.

Hmmm ... if only that were a Seasons video ... I could do a tribute to that....

Welcome to the Seasons, Mark!

that vid was made long before i discovered the seasons, i think either ukey re-posted it on a later thread to encourage me when i first started, to say "look, lots of us started out without a head, it's cool", or maybe i just went through all his vids when i first discovered him, coo-ing "ooh how fab" every five minutes

the exact story is maybe lost now in the mists of time, but the inspiration is not, here is my take...

Hoped to get a bari song or two done tonight.
Busted a string.
I put a new set of D'addario Titaniums about a fortnight ago and the G string broke within a day.
Put the G string from the Jim Dunlop set I was willing to give a try and it broke after just over a week. They broke between the nut and the tuning peg which hasn't happened before.
Bit unusual as I usually get a couple of months out of a set.
Both sets were purchased online so maybe they weren't that fresh but I usually buy my strings online.
So In The Pines and Dear Prudence may not get done.

I wanted to do a tribute to Peewee so here it is. Peter did this wonderful Magnetic Fields songs back in Season 53. I always love Peewee's choice of songs. He manages to pick a song that's most of the time also in my own record collection and always pretty indie as well. For instance check out his Outdoor Miner by Wire. Absolutely lovely.
We share a fondness for the Magnetic Fields and Jonathan Richman. I chose this Magnetic Fields song from the brilliant 69 Love Songs.

The Magnetic Fields come to the surface a lot in the Seasons. We did about four of five of their songs, Peewee has done a couple, Pabrizzer as well. When there's a new Season posted, I always glance at the back of 69 Love Songs to see if there'e one I can do...

ukey (that's his first name, his surname is dave) (maybe) did a fab version of "teenage kicks" by the undertones, it is on my "uke awesomeness" playlist, and it is also here...

that vid was made long before i discovered the seasons, i think either ukey re-posted it on a later thread to encourage me when i first started, to say "look, lots of us started out without a head, it's cool", or maybe i just went through all his vids when i first discovered him, coo-ing "ooh how fab" every five minutes

the exact story is maybe lost now in the mists of time, but the inspiration is not,
YES! RAWK!!!! I love this...the electric Baritone is just the thing. Well done here BEV (and yeah- well, you paying tribute to Dave is about as good as it gets). Way back in Season 24 Dave EXPLODED and played every Abba song he could think of for my wife. The ensuing banter was that Dave would always be headless. Made me smile to see this one so wide it hurt.

Me Tigers- love that. An excellent tribute to Mister Peter- great execution here as always, and the multi is spot on! I loved Peter’s version way back, glad to see it reprized.
On a stranger note- we saw Jonathan Richman in Minnesota last week. The show was he and a drummer in an old Catholic church in Duluth. Brilliant acoustics and beautiful setting (by old, I mean 1894). Like so many...time has not been as kind to him as it could have been, but we still got a few Modern Lovers songs belted out for us.

Right folks- coupla days left, still missing a few of you around here...can't wait for more!

Southside Mike did a great instrumental of Last Date for Season 85 that made me stop the video and grab a uke to play along: Here's my version, with lyrics by Conway Twitty.

I was just watching Mike's video the other day, trying to figure it out to play with my dad. This is kind of a staple in our house (dad has played pedal steel since they were made by dinosaurs). Excellent version here Dave! Excellent playing and singing as always.

Couldn't let this week go by without a tribute to Lynda. I think she's awesome. Well, we all think she's awesome right? Right. That's because she is. This is based on another vid from my first season, Doug's Cranking it to 11 week, and no-one cranks it more than Lynda. I was initially worried that I might not fit in here, but she showed me it's okay to rock out and break out the distortion every once in a while! Not to mention she's always really supportive on my videos.

So here you go Lynda. Based on the first Seasons video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2tIGmx5pCs) I ever watched.

Dave always takes the time to leave a lovely comment on my uploads and I know how time consuming this can be.When ever i watch Dave's songs it is as if a ray of sunshine has been let into my soul. Good bless you Dave and keep on Uke'in.

Ok, so I am a long time lurker of the Seasonistas and a big fan of all of you! I have always wanted to join in, but lack the skills. Is it too late to make an entry for this one? I have been working on a song I saw Mike Krabbers do for week 114. I am not really too confident in my singing abilities, can I just play the song without singing? I could try singing it, but then the fingers might stop playing if I do. I am leaving for a camping trip in the morning so if I do this it will probably be a rush attempt late tonight. I would really like to dip a toe in these waters and give it a try. Do I still have time and can I enter a song that I only play and do not sing?

Thanks Rab! I've got another song that I can somewhat sing so I did a search and viola! Someone has done it already for the seasons so I can use it I think. The Mike Krabbers song is more in line with playing a song that you were inspired to play because you saw a seasonista play it. I would not mind trying out sing one at the same time to. I have to say I have always been impressed with how you all seem to come up with a new song to play every week! I've only been playing about 6 months now so I don't really know to many songs all the way through. There's no way I could come up with a new song every week, but it's a goal for sure!

Oh Liz, Prizewinning Liz! Thank you!
The video of mine that inspired you is the most vulnerable performance I've ever done (definitely a one-taker), and it's gotten more views than anything I've done alone. I think a big part of what reaches people is when you open up your own heart.

Thank you for the tribute. you played it wonderfully well ,and whilst listening to it
I was wondering about the phrasing of the song, and it hit me that this is what
Randy Newman would sound like if he played the ukulele... and that little descending
run at the end was worthy of a Fats Waller piano roll. Sweet and relaxed beyond belief.

Right my second tribute is for my fellow pal who joined the seasons the same week as me back in season 7 he has always supported and given me kind words.I love how Pete chooses songs that are sometimes way out there and i love his eclectic choice. Jump in, the water is fine! This thing has been going for over two years. I've not been very active the last year because RL keeps getting in the way - but I'm quite certain that there has not been a single case of infanticide (or noobitide) in the entire history of the seasons! Seriously, this is the most welcoming, helpful, caring, gentle, just downright gosh-darn good group of people you'll ever "meet."

It's also a great way to improve very much, very fast. I've been catching up some the past three weeks and some of these folks absolutely amaze me by the improvement they've made as players and singers while I've pretty much stood still. This "challenge" represents pretty much everything that is amazing about the ukulele and ukulele players.

Tributes was a tricky first go round but, fortunately, I know that Mattydee guy and found this rather snazzy version of Paper Moon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTPvT1HDTaM).

Ha cha cha cha.

Yep...that is the stuff right there Mark! Welcome to the seasons. Expertly played, great singing- I just hope you find your head next time around ;) Keep them coming!
Matty’s excellent video was my first exposure to the seasons, Jon asked me to help him judge. When he emailed and asked what I thought after it was all over…my response was “Really? You gotta ask?”
As an aside- I have learned that when Wendy asks you to do something, you just submit. Glad you did.

Right folks- coupla days left, still missing a few of you around here...can't wait for more!

Gee, thanks, Mark! Great to see you here. I hope you'll stick around. And Dave, what a thing to say... Thanks so much. That was a special season for me, as it really was my introduction to Ukulele Ike. I had toyed with the mouth trumpet before, but discovering his use of it, and then having the encouragement of you guys got me to keep going and expanding with it, and it's an integral part of my performances now.

Anyway, I know I'm one of those who haven't gotten it together yet. I have a seasonista and a song, and have been working it up, but this gig I'm on has killer hours and finding the time to record has been tougher than I'd like. I will make it happen. But sadly, it will likely only be the one. I have grown so much as a player here, and that is due in large part to the influence all the Seasonistas have had on me... But that will wait until my actual tribute post...

Keep up the work guys... I've really enjoyed the few I've watched so far.

Yes, of course! Please do enter. You'll find Seasonistas are very kind and welcoming to newcomers. The moment you post your first Seasons video you are one of us.

I posted my first after only 4 weeks of uking ... Lumpy Wafflesquirt, I believe, did his first after only three days. Do whatever you can do appropriate to your current skill level. It will be great, and will get all sorts of Seasonista love, and you'll develop those skills by leaps and bounds the more you participate in this safe, supportive community. We love you!

You have until midnight Hawaii time Sunday night, which for us east coasters is currently 6am Monday morning. Each Season starts at midnight Hawaii time Saturday night (6am Sunday morning) and ends midnight Hawaii time Sunday night (6 am Monday morning) .... so they each last 8 days, and they overlap each other by a day. So you have all weekend to get 'er done.

Please ask here if you need any help making or posting your video ... heaps of expertise and friendly people willing to help out a newbie here!

And welcome!

Hat off, pants off- keys in the goldfish bowl.
Jon-O is such an easy one to look at as an inspiration…but you tore this right down and made is something special- sheesh…feeble attempt my arse.

Well, it was season 67 when this guy totally blew my mind: he took a bunch of Loudon Wainwright songs and hit em into the next postcode. I think it is safe to say we share a love of alt. country and folk, but there is no genre of music he doesn't do with class.

Folks, I am speaking of Andrew Morse AKA librainian. It is his laid back ease which always astounds me, the way he makes the difficult seem effortless, both vocally and in his playing of the ukulele. He has been a blessing and inspiration to many of us ever since he joined.

In season 116 he took an Ian Whitcomb arrangement of a whimsical Tin Pan Alley song and rocked it.

Thanks brother, this is my humble reposte.

Libranian- guy is legend.
This is a beautiful song, and of course, as always...you nailed it. Big smiles from across the world.
Both these videos explain how a song can get knocked right out of the park. Awesome back to back.

Berni, I LOVE your song! It captures the verve, the zip, the hats, the cheer, the right words, the sharing, and the spiritual communication found in the Seasons of the Ukulele.

It may be your best song ever. Thanks a million.

Oh, I so want to do about a thousand tribute videos this week! I want to do one for each and every one of you ... especially the newcomers and those who, like me, are still rather new to the uke ... because we are a lot less likely to get tributed than the folks with the skills of excellence and those with the deepest connections here. And them too, of course! Like Berni said, I love you all!

That said, I have three tribute vids in the works, of which I hope to get at least two complete. But a thousand is a bit beyond me.

I did, however, write a Seasonista tribute parody song a few weeks back ... and it mentions at least about 70 different Seasonistas by name, including a number of duos and large groups. And still I ended up leaving people out. So clearly, tributing everyone I'd like to tribute is an impossible dream.

But that one was about as close as I think it's possible to come, so maybe a few of you might like to see that ... and listen for your own name. If your name is not there, just post a comment on the video on YouTube and I will write you your very own verse. Especially if you're new to the Seasons and/or the uke. Or to me!

It's nowhere near as good as Berni's, which was perfect!, and sorry the original is such an annoying, repetitive, silly song. It was that week. It's filled with love ... even if it sounds like something else.

TCK, please let me know if it's inappropriate to post it here, and I'll remove. But this is the closest I'm gonna come to the full vision of what I want to do this week.

Alrighty I finally got one done!!! This seasonista has been one of them that inspired me to keep being a seasonista... there's a whole lot more but I kind of know this song and I've always liked this song when I was a kid so when I saw him do it, I told myself I'll learn it but never got the time to do so until a couple of days ago, so I hope he likes it and I hope you guys do too!

There's no way I could come up with a new song every week, but it's a goal for sure!

a. you don't need skills you just need a couple of chords, and heart, and the gumption to leap madly in, after that it's all out of your control, this place is addictive!

b. could you try two takes - first just the music one, and then a music and singing one? i was gonna say post the best one but hey forget that you could post them both, we'd love that!

c. speaking of takes, there is something to be said for doing several and picking your fave, but there is also a lot to be said for just going with the first one you can manage to get all the way through the song without having to stop completely!

d. we're not looking for perfection (quite a few seasonistas BRING perfection! but hey - they can't HELP being gifted and fabulous, i don't hold it against them or anything!) - we're just looking for people to have fun with uke-ing and you can expect to improve your playing and singing with the practice the seasons encourages you to do, so leap on in and start the journey!

e. learning a song - some genius folks (i really DON'T hold it against them!!!!!!!!!!) quite clearly learn songs or know them anyway or are just musical geniuses and exhale tunefulness every time they breathe out etc etc, but i for one work from a song sheet, a quickly jotted down lyric and chord sheet for however i could get the song to work from what i could find online, and i sing and play from that. if i had to learn a song all the way through and play it from memory i would still be working on my first vid!

f. in the U.S. you have until sunday night to post your vid, here in the UK we get until monday morning YAY!!!!!!!!!! but you know even if you are a bit late, you can still post your song to share with us, it won't count for the contest if you are late but it's really all about the sharing and you can still do that, most hosts are fine with that i think, especially if you were pressed for time or some crazy thing came up and messed with your uke-ing mojo or your internet, or you forgot the clocks went back or forwards or whatever. also there is the misfits island thread, if you are very late you can post there, you can also post there if you are past the song number limit for a season but feel compelled to keep making vids, also you can just post there for kicks!

g. don't panic i think i'm done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Berni- this makes my heart work. I think I can speak for all of us- we love you right back mate. Great song right there.
Can I get an Amen?

If I had any power or influence, Lynda, I'd make you an ambassador of the Seasons for the post above.
You've nailed it, what we are. Thanks for that explanation.

(If I could add one thing, I'd say to read carefully the guidelines for each new Season, as they vary—some hosts want infinite songs, others want only one official song; some love multitracking and audial enhancements, others don't.)

You rock, bird's eye!

I have worked on this song now for two days straight and I think my hand is crippled now ;)

Who wouldn't be inspired by Sammu. She is unbelievable! I think she joined us at about season 101 and knocked all our socks of with this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLPV2TG5H2Y). She is awe inspiring. Who wouldn't be inspired by this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmq_EtcZZ3w)!

Geoff's classical season inspired me to buy a children's classical ukulele book....baby steps!

This version you can find here were Aaron (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cQbxwbBqqI) breaks it down.

Although Sam probably hasn't played this tune sinse she was about four, this is my tribute to her :) Who could compare to this amazing talent? Certainly not me!! But, you gotta start somewhere! And here I am starting with the famous Mozart ~ "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman"!

Sam, if you come across this post could you please do a glorified version before the seasons end so I can link to it :)

Yesterday on Facebook I mentioned to TCK that I was going to do fifteen vids today. Turns out I only had time to do six. Dave, and the other two people who watch my vids, are going to get awfully tired of me this evening.

There's a good chance I still wouldn't be around the Seasons if it weren't for Jon (EugeneUkulele/ButterflyBandito). About a year ago I was so frustrated with my lack of progression with the ukulele that I offhandedly mentioned to Jon that I was "taking a break" from the seasons, but I noticed that he was up for hosting the following week and I would wait until after that to make my exit. Jon's reply was both encouraging and heartwarming. I don't even know why I bothered to mention that I was unhappy about continuing, I certainly didn't expect this uke hero of mine to say much more than something like "ok, see around". But he really opened up and shared how he also sometimes feels frustrated with his playing (can you imagine?). I kept his message in my inbox all this time, it means that much to me. I didn't ask his permission to share it, and I hope he doesn't mind, but here's how he ended his PM to me:
"Just keep a hold of that joy you felt when you first had the urge to play and sing cause that's what's important in the end eh. The rest of us'll be here to offer friendship and encouragment whenever you decide to start posting in the seasons thing again.
But I hope it's sooner rather than later, cause, I for one am going to miss you and your music brother."

I've been coming back ever since, with only occasional bouts of frustration and seasons breaks. Jon is not just a uke hero but a human hero, if you know what I mean. He is the essence of everything that is good about this place. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for being true to himself, and for giving a shit.

This is a song I first heard during the first season I ever hosted, Season 23. Jon was one of the winners with this tune. Here's his version. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hybFE5zKjY)
I wish he had kept it up on Youtube, but I've never forgotten it, and today I had the pleasure of doing my own version (which, as you can imagine, is very different from his version). Jon, this is a tribute to you brother. Thanks for the years of inspiration, both as a musician and as a human being.

This isn't the first time I've said this, but there is just not enough time this week to pay tribute to all the wonderful folks who I dearly love here. I am faced with honoring a couple of real seasons pals here with the same song.

Ralf: TheOnlyUkeThatMatters was my first Seasons friend. We live in the same city. We both started with Season 1. Shortly after the six original seasons we got together over a few beers and wondered how long this crazy train would keep going. 20 weeks maybe?! Over the past few years we've gotten together and made a few vids together and I can tell you that he is simply a wonderful guy. Even though we lived not far from each other I couldn't believe he wanted to play some songs with me. He's amazing. Right from the start Ralf floored me with his talent. I remember one of the original seasons was a head to head battle between Seasonsitas, and I was randomly picked to go head to head with Ralf! What a joke. But he's always been so very gracious and encouraging. Ralf, I'm so very glad to have met you and so honored to call you my friend.
Ralf did this song for Season 19, here it is. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRm96G3vLg&list=PL9CA2236C9CAC23E0&index=21)

Alan: I love Alan. He is so very generous and so very genuine. I remember after watching one of his videos that I mentioned in my reply that I loved it but I wished I could see what he was doing on the uke because I really wanted to figure out what he was doing. I think it was within minutes that Alan put up a new video explaining some of the things he was doing with his chords. I couldn't believe it. What an amazing member of this community. I've mentioned before how much I love the way he makes what seems to me should be a simple chord progression into something much more interesting. His enthusiasm for the seasons has been second to none. Hell, he's the guy who created an overflow thread for folks can't get enough. I'm so glad you're here brother.
One of my favorite weeks was Season 78, Ska Week, in which a bunch of us decided to do the entire The Harder They Come album. God, I loved the week so much. Here's Alan's version. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJLzdB2f_Nc&index=7&list=PLeIzPEGGcS27ctgZsD1YACikjdfXAGgdf)

Rex: This guy amazes me with just about everything he does. I tried to cover a couple other songs he did but couldn't get them to sound anything other than sloppy. I remember I just loved his version of Radar Love (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoXZag9osCA&index=46&list=PLaKuyxrZ9wHttDjjT6lJZ6-CwDAxEmQQr). When I commented about this, Rex just sent me the PDF of what he used. He asked me to let him know when I post it. Oh well. Rex and I share a love of KISS. I'm so very glad I'm not the only one!
Here's Rex's version. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cinysponzJ4&index=12&list=PLeIzPEGGcS27ctgZsD1YACikjdfXAGgdf)

I know for certain that TCK has recorded this tune. For the love of God, put the titles in your vids!! I can't find it, but I remember it. In lieu of Dave's version, I give you a vid from the day I had the great pleasure of meeting our esteemed host. I recorded the winners of Season 105 with TCK. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3UH-0lLLLI) Good times.

Again, stacking up on tributes.

Alan: Well, I just went on about this wonderful man. I remember when he did this song for (again) Season 78. I really wanted to do it, I've always wanted to give this song a shot, but couldn't figure out how to make it sound at least ok. I couldn't sing it. As I mentioned before, this week was such a blast. I really felt a wonderful camaraderie with Alan, TCK and few other seasonistas.

Jim: Uke4ia has been here for a long time as well. He and I share a mutual love for The Moody Blues. I wanted to do a version of Question (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQgxWCDJbe0&index=4&list=PLaKuyxrZ9wHttDjjT6lJZ6-CwDAxEmQQr) or Have You Heard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztzBojuAXX8&index=3&list=PLaKuyxrZ9wHttDjjT6lJZ6-CwDAxEmQQr), which Jim hit out of the park. He sent me the chord shapes he used for Question, but I don't have the chops. This guy can play! He convinced me to do Tuesday Afternoon for a season he hosted. I didn't think I could pull it off, and now it's one of my favorite songs to play. Thanks for that.
Here's Jim's version. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49L-ewjBNPA&list=PLeIzPEGGcS27ctgZsD1YACikjdfXAGgdf&index=13)

This song has been important to me since I was sixteen. It was sort of a gateway song into reggae for me. I had the pleasure of seeing Jimmy Cliff in concert four times since '86. He is by far one of the most amazing performers I've ever seen.

Erivel: Oh my God, this guy blows me away, every. single. time. I wanted to pay tribute to Eric but couldn't figure out what to do. There's no way in hell I could touch his skills. I decided on giving Boys Don't Cry a shot; a song I love, but I wanted to do a few others. Eric is another Seasonsita who seems to love KISS. His versions of I Was Made For Lovin' You (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_u_ygvx0kQ&index=76&list=PLaKuyxrZ9wHttDjjT6lJZ6-CwDAxEmQQr) and Cold Gin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T68oSd3ez3I&index=75&list=PLaKuyxrZ9wHttDjjT6lJZ6-CwDAxEmQQr)(made with the help of his incredibly talented brother) are two of my favorite Seasons vids EVER. His Beatles covers I drool over. I've sent the links to some of his vids to some old friends of mine and they are all amazed. I have a playlist on YouTube titled "Favorite Seasons Vids" (which is by no means complete) and I'm pretty sure Eric has the most vids in there. Thanks for the kind comments you've made on some of my own vids and for the tremendous inspiration.

PeeWee: I try to imagine The Seasons without Peter. I absolutely love his sense of humor. Besides that, he is genuine and an overall super nice guy. He's one of those guys who has kept me coming back here the past few years. I don't always get around to commenting on all the vids I watch (shame on me) but I sure do enjoy them. Aw Jon, I'm so happy to see this again! Thank you. Though you really didn't have to put it back up. I know you tend to delete vids from time to time and I completely respect that. One of the things I love most about you is you are true to who you are. The words I wrote are from the heart, yet they don't begin to express my gratefulness. If you ever do find yourself on the West Coast and you and Dave and I can play together, I can count blessings and I'll enjoy a dream come true.

I found the thread where you reposted this song shortly after you recorded it, complete with the chords, too late. I used chords I found online for the version I did, which is nothing like yours. You've got such an easy way with this tune, your playing and singing. So effortless. Many thanks brother.

I hope to be back to honor more of you wonderful folks this weekend.
I tried to do a few songs by Librainian (St Judy's Comet, Beer Run and Hang On Little Tomato), but they sounded like crap. I love Andrew's style and hope to get something down for him.
I was also hoping to do Llliy's version of Feed The Birds but didn't have the time to get it down. Such a beautiful song!
I wanted to do a song by 29Moons (You Better You Bet!), and hope to get to it tomorrow.
Then there's 23Skidooo. How in the world do you cover that guy? I might give In Tall Buildings a go.
And I would love to do Fil's Before You Came Along.
I just might get to Ginny's I've Got a Name tomorrow (I love you Ginny!)
But, there is one vid I absolutely MUST do before the end of the week (I'm lookin' at you Pa).....

I could go on and on. This week truly poses the greatest challenge. I really want to pay tribute to you all. I love this place.

Oh! I also gave a real go at Doug Frink's take on Louden Wainwright's Being A Dad. I almost got through one take and ran out of time. I just can't do those jazzy chords (yet), but Doug is one of my true uke heroes. He is an amazing player and I will never be able to thank him enough for offering up that gorgeous ukulele. Your baby has found a very loving home Doug!

Here it is:

Jon, I'm humbled and touched not only by your outstanding and dare I say it superlative reposte but more by the fact that you recall those early joyful fumblings of mine from season 67 with such fondness. Loudon's silly little ditty "Got A Ukulele" from "10 songs for the New Depression were what inspired me to run out and buy that first little uke and start to discover the joys of this delightful instrument.

Fast forward a scant few months later and you picked the perfect theme for me at that time and damned if that wasn't the kick I needed to post here in earnest. I think some of your first encouraging comments really inspired me to continue and got me out a creative and emotional rut so I will always be thankful to you for that.

Much love and respect brother. I can't imagine a greater prize than what you have given me today.

Well if this bumbling pabrizzer effort makes you go and check out Ray F's brilliant version HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hEDIDgkXbI) it has served its purpose.

Wow Linda! WOW!!! That was just amazing! I am humbled by your generosity. I'm sorry that I have only just seen it…. I was reading through this thread and enjoying the support and camaraderie that you all have and then WOW! To think that my playing might inspire you Linda is really very touching and makes me want to run off and practise my uke because I'm not sure I am worthy of such praise :) Now I have quite a challenge to learn that piece before the deadline. I have the sheet music (The Classical Ukulele by John King) but this is one I haven't played….yet…quick….where's my uke….

Thanks Linda! You're a star!

Humble and grateful thanks to you Brian for the tribute. I love how your baritone vocal range on this gives it your unique feel and stamp. Nothing bumbling about it. I also loved your Doug Parkinson inspired version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6nFx8WgBcg) with your son playing cajon. (Hope you don't mind me linking it.) I've listened to both it and Doug's live version several times this morning. I'm putting this on a short set list for next weekend. Thanks.

I am all misty-eyed here about these many and disparate declarations of admiration, little arrows of love going this way and that...some of them catching us quite unaware.

Dave, on the last day will you please light a campfire and let us sing Kumbaya together? And then some Townes van Zandt, and a Broadway tune, and some 60s kitcsh, and some Great American Songbook...

Hugs and more hugs to you all, for how much caring there is here. I know for a fact that the meaning of life is in caring relationships.

A wonderful song, I'd like to do since long time

Mein herr Elmann, I curtsy and incline my head in thanks that you learned this song after watching our version. I've always admired your cabaret style, and I can only dream of doing a song the way you did Oh, Luise.
I've got to try a Jagermeister sometime...maybe it will lead to us playing together one day.

As you can see by my post count, I am not a frequent poster but I have been lurking here for more than a year now, ever since I have bought my first uke. I have been going through almost every season since then but reluctant to post. This season, I had to. So her it is.

I could have tried something from Jon, but it is a little intimidating but always inspiring. This entry is for more than just a uke piece. It is from learning about an important person in music and american history, Pete Seeger.

You can hear the very nice original here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8FBwANgVaM) from Pa, but he also made me discover an artist. I have also seen the movie posted in a thread about Pete and saw how important he has been for America and music.

As a matter of fact, this is a piece of music about an american singer, done by a canadian but suggested by an australian. I think this is what this forum is all about.

It's so nice to wake up, drink my coffee, and read thru all the love flowing from everyone here :o. I tried to upload this 2nd video I did last night, but youtube was reeeeaaalllly slow...
Anyway, it was kind of coincidental cause a couple of weeks ago, i reached out to krabbers and was interested in purchasing his album... I received it this week. I immediately looked for this particular song that i saw him do during Tina's 'uke beatz' week because I was amazed by it, and i loved the message of the song. My coordination isn't that great which is why I couldn't do how he did it then, so I tried to do it my style. i've always admired krabbers cause he's a great player, singer, performer and song-writer.
Here's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ghwaghJmPk)his awesome version & here's mine:

You have all inspired me so much!!! However, My tribute is to Julien Staudt! He played a second bonus song (http://youtu.be/QEhwFw10Zoo) during a Saudade week and I was totally inspired right then and there to learn it. I believe that he had translated it from Henri Salvador's original French version. Anyway, here is my effort, despite the lack of a cute child swaying in the background...

http://youtu.be/yLl2tXm2JFM

I have now listened to the original French version (http://youtu.be/OeJgweLITIs)... It's great but I like Julien's better!!

I'm having a terrific time watching everyone's tribute videos this week! Comments soon!!!

Yay! Alan just gave me a reprieve with his season 123 announcement...let me explain.

I'd planned to do a tribute to Berni's "In Search of Fire" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juFduzk8ttI) from week 41. When this week 122 theme was announced my first thought was...I have to do that fire song Berni did. Then I looked it up and realized that it would be pretty challenging for me to play his style and such. Then Linda did a multi-track tribute to Pa and I realized that I could rip off her idea and add some UBASS and harmony vocal to Berni's original track.

Until I got this severe oral infection on Tuesday... I've been to the doctor twice for shots and antibiotics and my face still resembles a cross between Elephant Man and Quasimodo. I can barely speak, let alone sing, and when I am on antibiotics it affects my sense of pitch. I thought that was weird until I found out they do the same thing to a blind friend of mine and he normally has perfect absolute pitch.

Anyway, since I can't actually put up a video for this week I just wanted to shout out that Berni's songs are great and for some reason that particular one just knocked my socks off. It's not like I relate personally to the story, there is just something about the combination of lyrics and "peppy" approach to a somber theme that really clicked for me. Assuming this stronger antibiotic kicks in soon I'll put my tribute up in next week's round.

Others I'd intended to pay tribute to if time had allowed were UkuleleDaveey - not any specific song but just because of his attitude to the whole thing - and Christian (chrimess) for having the brilliance to have originated this idea over two years ago.

OMG, What a way to wake up this morning. Beaming with humble smiles and a heart filled with admiration to you for doing this song for me. We all live in our own little corners of the world but who knew we could reach so far across the world with love. I again am shocked to be celebrated. In a way this feels like a celebration to my dear departed mother because every song shared in my behalf was a song that she either sang or we sang together. This makes my heart so full I feel like I am going to burst with about a million emotions. Thank you so much Rob. Hugs hugs and more hugs to all you fine big hearted people.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Sam you deserve so much more than my abilities could ever allow and I didn't want the appreciation you have for the little uke to go unnoticed. It says a lot for the little instrument. For a classical guitarist as excellent as you to adopt the uke and put together so many fine songs in an ebook for others says so much about what can be done with it. We all thank you for what you've brought to our seasons:) Hugs to you and good luck tonight. ( She went Pro! )
