Has anyone ever had an ukulele related injury? After our jam session today, my darned music stand slipped out of my belongings onto my foot, cutting two of my toes....it wasn't deep enough to need stitches, and they aren't broken, but mighty ouchie and swollen and a rainbow of colors...I'm pretty sure I should stay home from work tomorrow...right?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you should stay home from work :)

My one uke injury wasn't nearly so... colorful. I sprained/strained my flexor digitorum superficialis while attempting to play a 5-fret span in first position on a borrowed tenor. But hey, I learned from my doctor that I have a muscle that sounds like a Harry Potter spell, and I finally managed to get over my tenor envy and be content with my sopranos and concerts!

i was at a uke jam and was eating and drinking. I felt horrible the next day, bad crackers and cheese I think....washed it all down with beer or wine or whiskey, (don't remember which) should have killed the germs, I stay away from cheese/crackers since then. (Does this count as a uke injury?)

Walked outside while wearing slippers to play my ukulele on the backyard swing. Slipped on the wet walkway and probably hurt myself more than if I had just fallen normally as I was trying to protect my ukulele. Any guesses on what I checked first? (It was perfectly fine. Me, not so much.)

Ouch! Healing hugs to one and all. No injuries here yet, that I can think of. I have whacked myself here and there trying to get a gaggle of uke cases in and out of my van at club meetings. That's about it.

Sounds more like a music stand related injury. Have you considered steel toed flip flops?

Never had an injury, but if I play too much my fret hands upper thumb joint will hurt. My thumb tips can bend 90 degrees backwards, and when it takes a lot of pressure like this it will often result in soreness later (usually when I'm not paying attention to it and correcting myself)

The ukes with heavier and stiff Aquila strings fatigue my thumb and palm of my left fret hand after awhile, so I've gone through and changed most of the strings to lighter fluorocarbon and lowered the action, has helped quite a bit.

Too much sitting on the TBUC Getaway last year damaged my sciatic nerve. When I stood up to leave after the banquet, my right foot was numb and wouldn't work properly...just kind of "floppy." Took several days to get the feeling in my foot back.

Wow, there are some serious injuries here....but I think mines the most serious, right? I overdid it and worked 12 hours last night and I am SORE!

Sometimes, after playing for hours, the forearm of my fretting hand gets sore or inflamed. Doctor said it was like tennis elbow. Ice it, rest it, take Aleve and play some more...

Only for grown ups....other wise it would be crackers.

Somewhere around 1968, I sat on a chair and broke the neck of my sister's ukulele. I glued it with Elmer's glue (What did I know about proper gluing). The neck slipped while drying and did not set properly. The next day, I took a pocket knife and totally against my Boy Scout training, tried to undo the joint while pulling the knife towards me. The knife slipped and I made a 5 inch long gouge in the underside of my left forearm. The scar remains as a reminder to always CUT AWAY from your body!
